Delhi Assembly Faces Another Bomb Threat Amid Political Discontent
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, March 25 (NationPress) - The Delhi Legislative Assembly has once again been the target of a bomb threat, this time through an email that has prompted increased security measures and an urgent response from law enforcement. The alarming message asserted that 16 RDX-based Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) were concealed within the Assembly's premises, with plans to detonate them at 1:40 P.M.
As reported by the Delhi Police, the alleged sender, claiming to be from Coimbatore, expressed feelings of disillusionment as a supporter of the DMK political party. The email conveyed that he and his associates felt betrayed after the arrest of their political allies, and that their grievances had been overlooked by both media outlets and judicial systems.
The message further indicated that, despite their limited means, the group had resorted to targeting the Delhi Legislative Assembly out of sheer desperation. It also cautioned authorities to evacuate individuals from the site, asserting that their aim was to inflict substantial damage. The email included several provocative and incendiary slogans, raising alarms among officials.
This incident follows a similar threat received just a day earlier, when the Assembly and Speaker Vijender Gupta were specifically targeted through separate emails. One of those messages warned of a potential explosion at the Assembly, while another extended the threat to a nearby Delhi Metro station.
According to officials, the email sent to the Speaker’s official account was timestamped at 7:49 A.M., with another message hitting the Assembly’s official email at 7:28 A.M.
Tuesday's email mentioned several prominent figures, including Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, and Cabinet Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa.
In response to these threats, the Delhi Police have initiated a comprehensive investigation to trace the source of the emails and evaluate their legitimacy. Security has been drastically increased in and around the Assembly and its vicinity as a precautionary measure.
Authorities are treating these threats with the utmost seriousness and have not dismissed any possibilities. Bomb disposal units and emergency services are on standby, while search operations are underway to ensure the safety of the area.
This isn't the first instance of such threats. Previously, on February 23, Speaker Vijender Gupta received a similar email threat from alleged 'Khalistan' supporters, warning of a bomb blast targeting him and the Vidhan Sabha Secretariat. In that case, the Speaker's office promptly alerted the Delhi Police Commissioner, leading to the implementation of necessary security measures.
The earlier threat was reportedly issued by a group identifying itself as the 'Khalistan National Army,' surfacing amid controversy over remarks attributed to Leader of Opposition Atishi in the Assembly, which were deemed disrespectful to Sikh Gurus.
