Key Takeaways
New Delhi, February 23 (NationPress) – Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta has been targeted with a bomb threat via email from alleged supporters of Khalistan, posing a risk to his safety and that of the Vidhan Sabha Secretariat, as reported by officials on Monday.
Immediately following the receipt of the threat on Gupta's computer earlier in the day, Vineet Kumar, the Speaker's Secretary, promptly notified the Delhi Police Commissioner about the alarming email.
The email, attributed to the Khalistan National Army, coincided with Gupta's upcoming presentation to the Committee of Privileges regarding allegations against the Leader of the Opposition, Atishi, for purportedly disrespectful remarks about Sikh Gurus during Assembly sessions.
In a letter directed to the police commissioner, Kumar stated, "I am instructed to forward the following threatening emails received on the personal email account of the Speaker. One such email from the Khalistan National Army, signed by Eng. Guranakh Singh, Rukan Shahwala, Dr. Gurnirvair Singh, and Khan Rajada, arrived on February 23 at 8:57 a.m. on the personal email ID of the Hon'ble Speaker, Delhi Legislative Assembly, from kristalburnette93@gmail.com."
The correspondence continued, asserting, "Another communication from the Khalistan National Army, also sent to the office email address of the Delhi Legislative Assembly, contained serious threats regarding a potential bomb explosion targeting the Vidhan Sabha Secretariat and the Speaker himself."
The threatening emails were documented to have arrived between 8:57 a.m. and 9:08 a.m. on Monday, according to official sources, with one email traced back to bryon76@gmail.com.
In light of the severe nature of these threats, the Speaker has requested immediate and necessary actions to be taken, alongside an investigation aimed at identifying the origin of these emails, considering the grave implications regarding bomb threats directed at the Delhi Legislative Assembly and his person.
