During a public address following the inauguration, PM Modi noted that Uttarakhand has successfully completed 25 years of its existence and is now embarking on its 26th year. He emphasized that the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway will serve as a significant milestone in the ongoing development of the region.
He reiterated that the double-engine government is devoted to the comprehensive development of Devbhoomi and praised the Economic Corridor for its potential to invigorate religious tourism throughout the state.
Reflecting on his earlier statement that the “next decade belongs to Uttarakhand,” he mentioned that highways, expressways, railways, waterways, and airways form the “bhagyarekha” (lifeline) of a nation, ensuring prosperity for future generations.
PM Modi stated that his administration is fully committed to constructing roads, highways, and major infrastructure projects. He contrasted the funding for infrastructure before and after 2014 to highlight the current focus on significant projects.
“During the UPA period, national spending on infrastructure was around Rs two lakh crore, but now it has surged to Rs 12 lakh crore. Of this, approximately Rs 2.25 lakh crore is allocated for developing world-class infrastructure in Uttarakhand,” PM Modi shared with the audience, receiving enthusiastic applause.
He also pointed out that ambitious initiatives such as the Char Dham expressway and the Kedarnath-Hemkund ropeway are being realized under the government’s guidance.
He remarked that recent months have witnessed the rollout of numerous large-scale projects, including the Meerut Metro, NaMo Bharat trains, and the Noida International Airport. The inauguration of the Delhi-Dehradun Economic Corridor is yet another piece of positive news for the region.
Elaborating on how the Delhi-Dehradun Economic Corridor will unlock Uttarakhand’s tourism potential, PM Modi expressed that the expressway will position Devbhoomi as a “tourism hub” by establishing smooth connections to various cities like Rishikesh and Haridwar.
A multitude of business prospects will emerge from these large infrastructure projects, benefiting various sectors, from hotel operators to homestays, he noted.
He also expressed his joy over Uttarakhand's rapid rise as the 'new' wedding destination.
