Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Kolkata, April 14 (NationPress) Congress MP and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, expressed his discontent on Tuesday regarding the trade agreement reached between India and the United States, targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
During his third election rally in Murshidabad district of West Bengal, Gandhi warned that this trade deal would result in the shutdown of numerous small and medium enterprises, leading to significant job losses within India.
He accused PM Modi of being under the influence of Donald Trump, asserting that the India-US trade agreement would adversely impact workers, farmers, and small businesses throughout the nation, particularly in Bengal.
Furthermore, Gandhi claimed that PM Modi has compromised India's agriculture sector by permitting the United States to market its agricultural products in India. He stated that this would devastate India's agricultural landscape and criticized the Modi administration for surrendering India's energy security to Washington and jeopardizing national data protection.
Rahul Gandhi noted that the Modi government has pledged to purchase goods worth ₹9.5 lakh crore from the United States, stating, “If American products flood India like a tsunami, our nation’s small and medium factories will face closure. This will be a double blow for Bengal since Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has already shut down industries in the state.”
In addition, Gandhi criticized the Mamata Banerjee administration in Bengal, accusing it of being operated by the Trinamool Congress syndicate.
He alleged that citizens are not receiving benefits as they have to pay fees to Trinamool Congress operatives to access services.
He described the situation in Bengal as a dictatorship and claimed that the Trinamool Congress is as corrupt as the BJP at the national level.
Previously, Rahul Gandhi had accused the Trinamool Congress of facilitating the BJP's growth in West Bengal while criticizing its governance over allegations of corruption and violence.
As the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, he condemned the Trinamool for engaging in syndicates and the 'goon tax' system.
“Who is providing opportunities for the BJP in Bengal? It is the Trinamool Congress. The BJP does not allocate funds to Bengal. They have not provided two lakh crore rupees to Bengal. They have reduced budgets for MGNREGA and have not approved any new projects for Bengal in the Union budget. The BJP is undermining democracy through SIR. Meanwhile, the Trinamool Congress is preoccupied with its own agenda, neglecting Bengal,” he stated.
Addressing the corruption allegations against the Trinamool Congress government, Gandhi remarked: “If (Prime Minister) Narendra Modi is corrupt, the Trinamool Congress is equally in the race for corruption. Millions of rupees were lost following the Saradha and Rose Valley chit fund scams. Scandals involving coal smuggling, illegal mining, and 'goon tax' from transporters are widespread. The people of Bengal are not benefitting; only the Trinamool's syndicate reaps the rewards, profiting continuously.”
The Congress leader also condemned the Trinamool for making unfulfilled promises and for creating an atmosphere of fear among the populace.
