Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Kolkata, March 17 (NationPress) Bharati Ghosh, a former IPS officer and national spokesperson for the BJP, expressed her approval of the Election Commission's decision to transfer government officials in West Bengal. She emphasized that Article 324 of the Indian Constitution grants the Election Commission the authority to act in a manner that ensures elections are conducted in a free and fair manner.
Regarding the transfers of IAS and IPS officers following the notification for the Assembly elections in West Bengal, Ghosh stated, "The Election Commission has utilized its powers to transfer those officials who were found to be compromising the integrity of the electoral process."
She highlighted the removal of Vineet Goyal from his position as ADG Law and Order for his inadequate management of law and order during the RG Kar rape and murder case.
Additionally, Ghosh mentioned that Chief Secretary Nandini Chakraborty, who had created conflicts between Nabanna and the Raj Bhawan, was also dismissed to ensure a neutral election environment. She remarked, "The people of West Bengal are living in fear under TMC governance. The Election Commission has acted under Article 324 to remove officials who could jeopardize the elections. This move has rekindled hope for a fair electoral process."
On a significant night, the Election Commission executed the transfer of Chief Secretary Nandini Chakraborty and Home Secretary JP Meena, along with several senior police officials, including the Director General of State Police and the Commissioner of Kolkata Police.
This development occurred shortly after the Election Commission announced the Assembly election notification for the state.
In her criticism of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Ghosh accused her of making provocative and anti-social remarks. She claimed that such statements discredit Bengal's rich culture and traditions.
During a press conference at the state BJP headquarters in Kolkata, Ghosh highlighted that Banerjee has allegedly threatened the Hindu community, stating that consolidation of a particular group could lead to their downfall.
Ghosh asserted, "As the chief minister and home minister of West Bengal, it is your duty to ensure the protection of all communities. This region is historically significant, known for figures such as Khudiram Bose and Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. The electorate will vote against TMC and bring about a change in power. The chief minister has neglected her constitutional responsibilities and duties."
According to Ghosh, it is essential for the chief minister to safeguard the well-being of the citizens of West Bengal and to address any groups that may incite chaos within society.
