Synopsis

On March 13, 2023, Gurugram's CEO Shyamal Misra led a meeting to enhance water supply and drainage systems. Strategies included activating boosting stations, disconnecting illegal connections, and upgrading infrastructure to prevent water wastage and flooding in the area.

Key Takeaways

  • MCG to activate non-operational boosting stations.
  • Illegal connections to be disconnected for better water supply.
  • Joint teams to prioritize critical water supply areas.
  • Infrastructure development to minimize water wastage.
  • Regular sanitation and waste management to prevent drain clogging.

Gurugram, March 13 (NationPress) Shyamal Misra, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA), convened a meeting on Thursday with officials from the GMDA, Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG), and the Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (HSIIDC) to address matters concerning inter-departmental coordination and collaboration.

Present at the meeting were MCG Commissioner Ashok Garg, Municipal Corporation of Manesar (MCM) Additional Commissioner Jitender Kumar, along with senior officials from GMDA, MCG, and HSIIDC.

To enhance the city’s water supply in anticipation of the summer season, the MCG was instructed to reactivate their non-operational boosting stations to ensure fair water distribution.

Orders were issued to terminate illegal connections on MCG pipelines to facilitate adequate water supply to the tail-end regions.

The GMDA CEO emphasized the necessity of forming a joint team comprising GMDA and MCG officials. This team will prioritize critical areas to ensure operational status of MCG boosting stations and facilitate water supply connections from these stations.

Furthermore, the MCG will oversee water supply in unauthorized areas.

Misra highlighted the importance of developing and upgrading essential infrastructure to minimize the wastage of potable water in Gurugram.

The Infra 2 division reported that certain city areas have internal drains that require cleaning and lack proper connections to the GMDA master stormwater drain network.

This disconnection leads to stormwater from sector roads flooding onto main roads.

The CEO of GMDA mandated the maintenance and connectivity of internal drains to the master drains.

Additionally, MCG was tasked with laying internal drainage pipelines where necessary to efficiently channel stormwater from internal sectors into the master stormwater drains, preventing waterlogging on city streets.

Concerns were also raised regarding garbage being dumped into drains along the National Highway.

MCG officials were instructed to ensure regular waste collection and sanitation to keep drains unclogged for swift stormwater discharge during the monsoon.

Moreover, MCG must enforce strict measures to prevent the disposal of waste from sanitation activities into GMDA-developed surface drains or road gullies to mitigate drain clogging and waterlogging during the rainy season.

MCG officials were also directed to maintain regular sanitation efforts in the city's various underpasses.

To bolster the sewerage system, GMDA officers were instructed to acquire 49.93 acres of land from MCG for the construction of planned sewage treatment plants in Gurugram's Sector-107.
