Gurugram, Jan 30 (NationPress) The Traffic Police of Gurugram announced on Thursday that vehicles associated with certain traffic violations will be subjected to impoundment under specific sections of the Motor Vehicle (MV) Act if fines remain unpaid for more than 90 days.
The authorities indicated that this measure aims to facilitate commuters and motivate timely payment of traffic fines, ultimately alleviating the burden on the courts and the department.
Additionally, this initiative seeks to tackle the escalating problem of unpaid fines, with police issuing over 4500 challans through CCTV monitoring and manual enforcement by officers.
According to officials, this decision was prompted by the considerable number of outstanding challans from both the traffic department and the court.
The Deputy Commissioner of Police Traffic, Virender Vij, has provided comprehensive instructions to all traffic inspectors and zonal officers to educate the public in their areas regarding the necessity of settling any issued challans within 90 days.
“During vehicle inspections, if a challan payment is overdue beyond the 90-day period, the vehicle is subject to impoundment under section 167 (8) of the MV Act,” Vij explained.
The deadline for clearing all previous pending challans has been set for February 10, 2025.
“We urge individuals to ensure that they pay their outstanding challans before this specified date. All drivers are expected to settle their dues within 90 days from the date the challan is issued to evade unnecessary police actions,” he added.
This initiative by the Gurugram Traffic Police emphasizes the significance of adhering to traffic laws and promptly addressing any fines incurred to prevent severe consequences such as vehicle impoundment.
