New Delhi, March 15 (NationPress) The Delhi Traffic Police has taken action against 1,213 motorists for drunken driving during the Holi festivities in the national capital on Friday, according to an official statement.
Dinesh Kumar Gupta, Additional Commissioner of Police, Traffic, reported on Saturday that during a targeted operation from 8 a.m. to midnight on Friday, 2,376 two-wheeler riders faced penalties for riding without helmets.
In addition, the traffic police penalized 573 vehicle owners for triple riding. Furthermore, a total of 3,068 tickets were issued for various other traffic violations, he noted.
“On Holi day, 7,230 traffic rule violations were recorded,” Gupta stated.
In light of the Holi (Dhulendi) celebrations on Friday, the Traffic Police deployed 84 special teams equipped with alcometers to monitor drunken driving.
Additionally, 40 joint checking teams comprised of Traffic Police and local police were stationed at major intersections and sensitive areas during the Holi celebration to identify and penalize traffic violations.
The police implemented comprehensive measures to guarantee the safety of both pedestrians and motorists on the roads while addressing incidents of drunken driving, triple riding, underage driving, riding without helmets, and performing stunts on two-wheelers.
In a related incident, the Crime Branch of the Delhi Police announced the arrest of a woman drug peddler on Saturday, along with heroin valued at Rs 20 lakh, from Bhopura in Uttar Pradesh.
Twenty-six-year-old Vandana, also known as Pooja, sourced the narcotic from a dealer named Sachin, who is currently in custody, and sold it in small amounts in Northeast Delhi’s Nand Nagri, Sundar Nagri, and Rajender Nagar.
Vandana, who is married to Akash, was apprehended based on confidential information that was technically developed and verified by Inspector Vivekanand of the Cyber Cell, Crime Branch.
On February 20, the Crime Branch had arrested Vandana’s supplier, Sachin, 36, a resident of Nand Nagari, dismantling an interstate supply network of heroin.
A total of 601 grams of high-quality heroin was recovered from his possession, as reported by the police.
Vandana’s name emerged during the disclosure statement of the accused Sachin, who was charged under Sections 21 and 25 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985, concerning drug preparation and the use of property for drug-related offenses.
