Ranchi, June 5 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Jharkhand, Hemant Soren, officially opened a newly built 2.34 km four-lane flyover and elevated corridor on Thursday, which connects Mecon Chowk (Doranda) to Sirmatoli in the state capital, Ranchi. The ambitious project, which cost Rs 355.76 crore, was completed under the guidance of the state’s Road Construction Department.

This marks the second flyover launched to the public in Ranchi within a year.

The inauguration took place just a day after various tribal organizations called for a Jharkhand bandh in response to disputes regarding the flyover's ramp.

In an unexpected turn, the Chief Minister inaugurated the project the very next day.

During the event, CM Soren declared that the flyover would be named in honor of Kartik Oraon, a former Union Minister and a respected tribal leader.

At the gathering held at Van Bhawan, Doranda, Soren reaffirmed his government’s dedication to genuine development rather than merely making empty promises.

"We are not like those who engage in the politics of hollow promises. Our government is earnestly working toward the development of both rural and urban areas," he stated.

The project features a remarkable 132-meter cable-stayed bridge built above the railway line, making it Jharkhand’s first flyover to incorporate such a design.

The Road Construction Secretary mentioned that it is also the first project in India to utilize mono-piling technology and pre-cast slabs since the Mumbai Sea Link.

To facilitate the project, 51 private and government properties, including temples and graveyards, were either demolished or relocated.

The flyover is expected to reduce travel time across this heavily trafficked corridor from 20-30 minutes to just 3-4 minutes, significantly alleviating traffic congestion.

This new elevated corridor aims to decrease traffic congestion by up to 40 percent in critical areas of Ranchi, such as Main Road, Doranda, Sujata Chowk, Station Road, Club Road, and Kadru.

The project was inaugurated less than three years after CM Soren laid its foundation stone on August 19, 2022.

Numerous dignitaries attended the event, including state Labour and Employment Minister Sanjay Yadav, Agriculture and Animal Husbandry Minister Shilpi Neha Tirkey, Rajya Sabha MP Mahua Maji, and Chief Secretary Alka Tiwari.

The inauguration coincided with the celebrations of World Environment Day. On this occasion, the Chief Minister encouraged citizens to actively engage in efforts to conserve the environment.
