Humayun Kabir Hits Back: Denies Trinamool’s Allegations and Viral Video Claims
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, April 10 (NationPress) The political drama intensified in West Bengal on Friday as Humayun Kabir, the President of the Aam Janata Unnayan Party (AJUP), firmly dismissed allegations following the emergence of a controversial video shared by the Trinamool Congress. This video suggested his connections with BJP leaders and called for an inquiry by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).
Kabir reacted forcefully to the claims, stating, “....I challenge Bobby Hakim (Firhad Hakim) to present the individual featured in the video, the one I am seen conversing with about financial matters...I engage in no dealings with anyone. I entered this life empty-handed and will depart in the same manner. The AIMIM terminated the alliance; inquire with them about their reasons, not with me.”
The uproar began when the Trinamool Congress released a video on Thursday, allegedly depicting Kabir in a dialogue that insinuated connections with political figures. The party also called for an investigation by the Enforcement Directorate regarding these implications.
This video release ignited a political wildfire in the state, amplifying tensions in anticipation of the forthcoming Assembly elections. The situation quickly escalated into a broader political confrontation that engaged multiple parties.
In a pivotal turn of events, the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), under the leadership of Asaduddin Owaisi, declared its withdrawal from the alliance with Kabir’s Aam Janata Unnayan Party soon after the video became public.
AIMIM proclaimed in a post on X that the decision was made after assessing the controversy, emphasizing that Kabir’s comments raised significant concerns regarding the political alignment and integrity of their coalition.
The party stated, “Humayun Kabir’s disclosures have illustrated how vulnerable Bengal’s Muslim community is. AIMIM cannot associate with any statements that question the integrity of Muslims. Therefore, as of today, AIMIM has severed ties with Kabir’s party. The Muslim population in Bengal is among the most impoverished, neglected, and oppressed groups. Despite years of secular governance, their needs remain unmet. AIMIM’s approach in contesting elections across any state is to ensure that marginalized communities have an independent political voice. We will be participating in the Bengal elections INDEPENDENTLY and will no longer form alliances with any party moving forward.”
With the exchange of allegations, counterclaims, and the dissolution of alliances, this incident has added more turbulence to the already volatile political landscape in West Bengal as parties ramp up their campaigning efforts ahead of the Assembly elections.
