Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Kolkata, Feb 28 (NationPress) A man has been apprehended by the Kolkata Police for allegedly stabbing three individuals in the Jorabagan locality of north Kolkata due to a relationship-related dispute, authorities reported on Saturday.
The police indicated that a confrontation ensued between the former boyfriend of a young woman and her current partner.
During the heated exchange, the current partner purportedly stabbed the former boyfriend and two of his companions on a public street.
All three victims were promptly taken to the hospital in critical condition. The suspect, identified as Sudipto Mandal, was taken into custody by officers from the Jorabagan Police Station.
According to police reports, Shubhajit Roy, a resident of Jogen Dutta Lane in north Kolkata, was involved with a young woman from the Dunlop area on the northern outskirts of the city. Subsequently, Sudipto Mandal entered a relationship with the same woman. This led to frequent arguments between her and Roy as she began spending more time with Mandal.
Investigators stated that Mandal allegedly directed the woman to summon Roy to Rabindra Sarani to “resolve” their conflict. The woman was reportedly unaware of Mandal carrying a sharp weapon during this time.
Upon Roy's arrival at Rabindra Sarani, an argument erupted between the two men, escalating to verbal abuse. Sensing potential violence, Roy called upon two friends—Raja Singh and Jishnudeep Porel—to join him.
Local witnesses informed the police that Mandal persisted in threatening and verbally assaulting Roy even after his friends showed up.
During the confrontation, Mandal allegedly drew a sharp object from his pocket and attacked Roy first, leaving him injured on the road. When his two friends attempted to intervene, he reportedly assaulted them as well, causing injuries to both.
After the attack, Mandal fled the scene. Local residents quickly transported the injured parties to a hospital. Police from the Jorabagan Police Station initiated an investigation, leading to Mandal's arrest earlier in the day through a search operation. A case has been filed against him.
