The significant gathering at Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh is becoming a catalyst for temporary employment and economic development within the country.

This monumental event is expected to enhance commerce not only in Prayagraj but also in surrounding areas, with key industries like tourism, transportation, logistics, healthcare, IT, and retail anticipated to experience considerable gains.

As per the report by NLB Services, a global technology and digital talent solutions firm, the sacred assembly has evolved into a significant contributor to economic activity, beyond its deep spiritual importance.

The government of Uttar Pradesh expects to receive 40 crore devotees, marking it as one of the largest peaceful gatherings in history.

According to the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT), this event is predicted to generate an astonishing Rs 2 lakh crore in economic activity, creating unparalleled opportunities across various sectors.

“The economic ripple effect encompasses infrastructure development, event management, security services, local trade, tourism, entertainment, and horticulture, fostering growth in both traditional and modern business sectors,” stated Sachin Alug, CEO of NLB Services.

The rise in temporary jobs across these different sectors is significantly enhancing both formal and informal employment.

“In the tourism and hospitality sector, positions such as hotel staff, tour guides, porters, travel consultants, and coordinators are likely to see substantial growth, contributing around 450,000 to manage the influx of visitors,” Alug remarked.

Likewise, the transportation and logistics industry will face increased demand for drivers, supply chain managers, courier staff, and other support roles, leading to the creation of an estimated 300,000 jobs.

Temporary medical facilities established during the event will offer opportunities for freelance nurses, paramedics, and allied healthcare professionals, generating approximately 150,000 positions to ensure the safety and health of millions of participants.

“Meanwhile, the IT and technology sector is expected to see a rise in demand, requiring 200,000 professionals to oversee virtual darshan applications, real-time event updates, and cybersecurity for smooth digital interactions,” the report stated.

Retail outlets catering to the needs of devotees are anticipated to create around 100,000 jobs for on-ground sales and customer support staff to fulfill the demand for religious items, souvenirs, and local products.

So far, at least 7.72 crore devotees have participated in the holy dip at the world's largest spiritual gathering.
