Kolkata, May 23 (NationPress) West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday urged for a special session of Parliament, coinciding with the return of members from the multi-party delegations currently visiting various nations to showcase India's united front and unwavering commitment in the fight against terrorism in all its forms.
This initiative is geared towards fostering international collaboration against terrorism and to effectively isolate Pakistan and the groups it supports that fuel terrorism. It is worth noting that India initiated Operation Sindoor following the Pahalgam terror attack, with armed forces executing strikes on terrorist infrastructure situated in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK).
In a statement released via X, the West Bengal CM reaffirmed her party, Trinamool Congress, support for any actions taken by the Central government that prioritize national security.
"I am pleased to witness an all-party delegation engaging with various countries as part of India’s global effort against terrorism. I have consistently asserted that the AITC stands resolutely behind any measures the Union government takes in the national interest and to safeguard our sovereignty. I call on the Union Government to organize a special session of Parliament following the delegation's safe return, as I believe the citizens of this great nation deserve to be informed about the recent conflict and the unfolding developments - BEFORE ANYONE ELSE," the Chief Minister’s statement read.
Although the Chief Minister did not elaborate on her reference to “anyone else,” political analysts interpret this as a subtle critique of US President Donald Trump’s announcement regarding a ceasefire between India and Pakistan earlier this month via his X account.
Previously, Congress MP and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, also requested a special session of Parliament regarding Operation Sindoor.
Interestingly, after a prolonged period of silence on this matter, Mamata Banerjee has made this demand while multi-party delegates are abroad.
