Thiruvananthapuram, Feb 6 (NationPress) Renowned Malayalam actor Maniyanpillai Raju presented himself to the Museum Police on Friday and has been taken into custody due to a hit-and-run incident that left two motorcyclists with severe injuries.
The police documented his arrest and proceeded with a necessary medical examination as required by law. Subsequently, he was released on bail from the Museum Police station.
Thiruvananthapuram City Police Commissioner K. Karthik informed the press that both the DCP and ACP have been instructed to carry out a thorough investigation and provide a report.
"Let’s await the report, and the law will take the appropriate steps based on its findings," Karthik stated.
The collision took place late Thursday evening, around 10 p.m., near the Trivandrum Club.
This incident garnered public attention particularly because the car involved failed to stop after the accident.
Before entering the police station, Raju briefly spoke to reporters, asserting that the motorcycle collided with his car from behind.
He acknowledged his role as the driver at the time of the incident but explained that he panicked and fled the scene.
“I was terrified. I reported the accident yesterday and requested treatment for the injured,” he mentioned.
The actor cited health issues, noting he is a cancer patient currently undergoing treatment and recovering from chikungunya.
He emphasized that he was not under the influence of alcohol during the accident.

As per police records, the vehicle is registered under the name Sudheer Kumar Raju, which is the actor’s legal name.
Police had visited the actor’s home later Thursday night as part of their investigation, but found the premises locked and his mobile phone turned off.
This led to increased speculation until the actor voluntarily presented himself to the police the following morning.
The injured individuals have been identified as Nivedith Krishna and Sooraj, both of whom were riding the motorcycle.
Nivedith suffered leg fractures, while Sooraj sustained serious spinal injuries.
An FIR has been filed regarding the case, and the police confirmed that the investigation is ongoing. The vehicle in question has yet to be seized, as the actor notified investigators that it is currently parked in Jawahar Nagar.
Further inquiries are anticipated as the investigation unfolds.
