More Than 30.43 Crore Informal Workers Registered on eShram Portal: Government Update

New Delhi, Dec 6 (NationPress) Over 30.43 crore unorganised workers have registered on the government's eShram portal (as of December 1), the Parliament was informed.

The count of informal workers hailing from rural regions who have registered on the eShram Portal stands at 27.22 crore (as on December 1), stated Union Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Shobha Karandlaje in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha.

The Ministry launched the eShram portal (eshram.gov.in) on August 26, 2021 to establish a thorough National Database of Unorganised Workers (NDUW) linked with Aadhaar.

The eShram portal aims to register and assist unorganised workers by offering them a Universal Account Number (UAN) based on self-declaration.

Awareness campaigns on social media platforms are also being employed to encourage workers to register on eShram. State Seva Kendras (SSKs) and the services of Common Service Centres have been enlisted to aid in the assisted registration of unorganised workers, according to the Ministry.

Furthermore, the eShram portal is now available on the Unified Mobile Application for New-age Governance (UMANG app) to enhance accessibility for workers and provide registration/update capabilities conveniently via mobile.

As of now, 12 schemes from various central ministries and departments have been integrated or linked with the eShram portal.

Based on the Union Budget 2024-25, a comprehensive integration of the eShram portal with other government websites will create a ‘One-Stop-Solution’.

The Ministry of Labour and Employment has also reached out to other ministries like the Ministry of Panchayati Raj (MoPR), Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), and Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD) to ensure the registration of unorganised workers under their jurisdiction on the eShram portal promptly.

“The eShram-One Stop Solution will act as a facilitator to guarantee seamless access to various Government schemes for unorganised workers. This initiative will aid in raising awareness of schemes designed for unorganised workers while ensuring comprehensive coverage of the schemes by identifying potential beneficiaries who may have been overlooked,” stated the Ministry of Labour and Employment.
