NDA backs Rambhadracharya's 2027 UP poll prediction, eyes historic win

Synopsis

A seer's one-line prophecy has handed the NDA a fresh talking point ahead of UP 2027. With Rajbhar, Jaiswal and JD(U)'s Neeraj Kumar lining up behind Jagadguru Rambhadracharya's prediction, the BJP-led bloc is signalling early confidence — and quietly framing the SP-Congress combine as already on the back foot.

Key Takeaways

NDA leaders on 3 June backed Jagadguru Rambhadracharya's prediction of a BJP win in UP 2027 .

Leaders of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) on Wednesday, 3 June, welcomed spiritual leader Jagadguru Rambhadracharya's prediction on the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, voicing confidence that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led alliance will secure another decisive mandate in the country's most populous state.

The endorsements followed Rambhadracharya's remark that the BJP would return to power in Uttar Pradesh. “The lotus will bloom in Uttar Pradesh once again. I am saying this with confidence,” the seer said.

NDA leaders rally behind the prediction

Uttar Pradesh Minister O.P. Rajbhar argued that the alliance's recent state-level performances signalled continued public backing. “If we talk about Bihar only, the NDA had a historic victory in Bihar. Bengal, where the INDIA bloc had a lot of confidence, had a historic victory there too. So, UP will also be a historic victory. Because these are failure people, Congress and SP have seen their performance in 2017,” Rajbhar said.

He further contended that the Indian National Congress lacks an independent political base in Uttar Pradesh. “Congress does not have the votes. Congress has to fight with the support of the Samajwadi Party. In this regard, there is no point. So you will see that the government is going to perform better than what they have predicted,” he added.

Bihar minister's endorsement

Bihar Minister Dilip Kumar Jaiswal described Rambhadracharya as a figure of deep spiritual insight. “Saint Rambhadracharya ji is omniscient; although he is visually impaired, he is said to have deep spiritual insight and knowledge of everything through the mind. In this country, if Sanatan Dharma is insulted through appeasement and vote-bank politics, as seen in the politics of Rahul Gandhi and the INDIA bloc, then it is concerning. Many times, Sanatan traditions are disrespected and challenged for political gain,” he said.

Jaiswal added, “Rambhadracharya ji has rightly said that there should be no caste discrimination, but in this country, appeasement politics for vote banks should not lead to the insult of Sanatan values. This will not be tolerated.”

JD(U) flags the democratic verdict

Janata Dal (United) Chief Spokesperson Neeraj Kumar said the ultimate call in a democracy belongs to voters, but expressed confidence in an NDA sweep. “Who makes what remarks is their matter. However, in this country, democracy exists, and every party will contest the elections. So our alliance partners will go to the public court based on their achievements and the promises made to the people, and will appeal for votes,” he said.

Drawing a contrast with Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's politics, Kumar added, “The SP should learn from Nitish Kumar what being a socialist means. The country has moved ahead of the caste-based system, but some parties are still stuck to it. We know how development can be carried out with justice. That is why the results in UP will be the same as last time.”

What's next

With nearly two years to the 2027 Uttar Pradesh polls, the BJP-led NDA is signalling early momentum, even as the Samajwadi Party-Congress alliance under the INDIA bloc is yet to formally roll out its state-level strategy. The contest in a state that sends 80 MPs to the Lok Sabha will be closely tracked as a barometer for the 2029 general elections.

Point of View

But the NDA's eagerness to amplify it is itself the story — it reveals how aggressively the BJP-led bloc wants to set the narrative two years out. Rajbhar's pivot from Bihar's verdict to a UP projection skips the inconvenient fact that the 2024 Lok Sabha result in UP was far from a BJP sweep. Jaiswal's framing of the contest around Sanatan Dharma also signals that cultural polarisation, not just governance, will remain a central plank. The SP-Congress alliance, meanwhile, has yet to mount a counter-frame — and silence in Indian politics rarely ages well.
