This new line connects Bengaluru's Central District to the technological hub, Electronics City. In a symbolic gesture, he purchased a ticket by scanning the QR code at the Metro station before accessing the platform.
During the event, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, and officials from the Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) provided an overview of the project to PM Modi at the venue. Following this, the Prime Minister flagged off the Metro train.
Notable attendees included Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot, Union Ministers Manohar Lal, Ashwini Vaishnaw, Shobha Karandlaje, Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya, former Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy, Union Minister of State for Railways V. Somanna, and others.
Despite the rain, thousands gathered at the R.V. Road (Ragigudda) Metro Station to see the Prime Minister. The crowd chanted slogans in his favor and showered flowers on his vehicle, to which he responded by waving.
PM Modi is set to ride the newly inaugurated 19.15 km Yellow Line Metro, traveling alongside 16 girl students from a government school and eight laborers who contributed to the project. This journey will pass through 16 Metro stations, concluding at the Bommanahalli Metro Station in Bengaluru.
Afterward, he will head to the IIIT Auditorium in Electronics City to lay the groundwork for Phase 3 of the Metro project and to officially inaugurate the Yellow Line Metro services once more.
BJP National Yuva Morcha President and Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya remarked that the Prime Minister is dedicating two major projects to the city's residents. He stated, “He is laying the foundation for Phase 3 of the Metro. Once operational, approximately 1 million people will use the Metro daily. Likewise, the newly inaugurated Yellow Line will serve 1.8 million people in the Bengaluru South area.”
Surya also noted, “I had asked PM Modi to inaugurate the Yellow Line Metro Project in Bengaluru. He emphasized that any delay in launching these projects was unacceptable, as the Metro services would alleviate traffic congestion for Bengaluru residents. He set the inauguration date within just seven to eight days.”
“On behalf of the people of Bengaluru and Karnataka, I extend my congratulations to Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” he concluded.
