Chandigarh, April 7 (NationPress) In a significant setback to drug trafficking organizations, the Amritsar Rural Police announced on Monday the arrest of Tamandeep Singh, a local from Kakkar village. Authorities seized two kg of heroin and 900 grams of ICE (crystal meth) from his belongings.
A formal complaint under the NDPS Act has been filed at the Lopoke police station.
Ongoing investigations aim to uncover both upstream and downstream connections to dismantle the entire drug operation, as stated by the Director General of Police (DGP).
As part of the relentless campaign against drugs, “Yudh Nashian Virudh”, directed by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, efforts to eliminate the drug crisis in Punjab resulted in police raids at 337 locations on Sunday, leading to the capture of 54 drug traffickers following the registration of 37 FIRs.
This brings the total number of drug traffickers apprehended to 5,169 in just 37 days.
Police teams also confiscated 411 grams of heroin, 1617 intoxicant tablets, and Rs 34,400 in drug-related cash from the arrested individuals.
The coordinated operation, orchestrated by DGP Gaurav Yadav, took place across all 28 police districts.
Additionally, CM Mann has instructed the Commissioners of Police, Deputy Commissioners, and Senior Superintendent of Police to transform Punjab into a drug-free region.
A five-member Cabinet subcommittee, led by state Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema, has been established to oversee the anti-drug initiative.
Special DGP (Law and Order) Arpit Shukla revealed that over 150 police teams, consisting of more than 900 personnel, under the guidance of 66 gazetted officers, executed simultaneous raids throughout the state on Sunday, scrutinizing 364 suspicious individuals during the extensive operation.
Punjab Police have developed a thorough strategy, vowing to persist with such operations until the drug issue is completely resolved in the state, officials confirmed.
