Putin Expresses Grief Over the Passing of Manmohan Singh, Remembered as a Distinguished Leader

New Delhi, Dec 27 (NationPress) Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed his grief on Friday regarding the passing of former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, calling him an outstanding statesman.

Dr. Manmohan Singh succumbed to age-related health issues at Delhi’s All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) on Thursday night. He was 92 years old.

In his condolence message, President Putin remarked, “During his time as Prime Minister and in various other high-ranking roles, he (Dr Singh) achieved significant milestones in enhancing India’s economic progress and advocating its interests globally.”

“He also played a pivotal role in fortifying the amicable relations between our nations by upgrading them to a special privileged strategic partnership. I had the privilege of conversing with this remarkable individual on several occasions. His memory will be cherished,” added the Russian President.

Earlier in the day, Russian Ambassador to India Denis Alipov conveyed his condolences concerning Dr Manmohan Singh's passing.

In a message on X, Denis Alipov stated, “This is a moment of deep sorrow for both India and Russia. The contribution of Dr Manmohan Singh to our bilateral relations was immeasurable. His charming demeanor was always appealing, and his expertise as an economist and dedication to India's advancement were undeniable. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of Dr Manmohan Singh ji and the Indian populace.”

Born on September 26, 1932, in Gah, West Punjab (now in Pakistan), Dr Manmohan Singh was a renowned economist and politician who left an enduring legacy as Prime Minister. He led the Congress-led government at the Centre from 2004 to 2014.

As the first Sikh to serve as Prime Minister, Dr Singh’s leadership was frequently acknowledged for guiding India through a transformative economic era.

He was instrumental in elevating the country to the status of a significant global economic power.
