New Delhi, March 13 (NationPress) In a significant announcement, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta revealed on Friday that the government intends to rename the Shahjahanabad Redevelopment Corporation (SRDC) and expedite initiatives aimed at reinstating the historical grandeur of Old Delhi.

As part of these ongoing efforts, approximately Rs160 crore worth of development projects are currently in progress across 28 roads in the region.

Gupta stated that the government will not only revise the corporation's name but will also leverage this change to enhance the genuine redevelopment of both Old Delhi and the Shahjahanabad area.

During the 38th board meeting of the Shahjahanabad Redevelopment Corporation, the Chief Minister addressed various issues concerning the overall development of Old Delhi and emphasized the need for heritage conservation.

The board reviewed the functioning of the SRDC under the previous administration, bringing to light concerns about financial discrepancies. Gupta assured that these irregularities will be thoroughly investigated.

Present at the meeting were Delhi Cabinet Minister Ashish Sood and senior officials from relevant departments.

The proposal for changing the board's name was deliberated, with plans to prepare three potential names in order of preference for final selection.

Additionally, the meeting evaluated the Chandni Chowk redevelopment project, which spans from Lal Jain Mandir to Fatehpuri Masjid.

Chief Minister Gupta declared that the time is ripe for a comprehensive reorganization and revitalization of the institution.

Projects under consideration include road construction and upgrades, beautification of public spaces, enhanced sanitation measures, improved maintenance of public toilets, and extensive cleanliness campaigns.

Moreover, a phased strategy is being devised to bury electricity wiring underground throughout the area, enabling the introduction of modern amenities while safeguarding the historic essence of Old Delhi.

Gupta further announced plans to transform the Town Hall into a significant heritage monument, enhancing the cultural and historical allure of the precinct.

She emphasized that Old Delhi serves as the heart of the national capital. The government is committed to preserving its historical heritage, identity, and cultural dignity while integrating modern facilities. The overarching aim is to evolve the Shahjahanabad area into a lively and captivating heritage zone that garners national and global recognition.
