Mumbai, Jan 20 (NationPress) A 30-year-old man from Bangladesh, Mohammad Shariful Islam Shehzad, has been taken into custody for stabbing actor Saif Ali Khan following an intrusion into his residence. Police sources indicate that he conducted surveillance of various Bollywood stars' homes prior to the incident.

During his questioning, Shehzad admitted to having surveyed the properties of Saif Ali Khan, located in the Satguru Sharan building, as well as Shah Rukh Khan's iconic Mannat, among others.

In order to explore access points to these prominent residences, he utilized a ladder. However, he ultimately decided against targeting Mannat due to its extensive security measures and tall barriers, according to reports.

On January 15, he meticulously scouted Saif Ali Khan's residence, determining a straightforward entry method. Later that night, at 1:37 a.m. on January 16, he entered the building.

Once inside, his robbery attempt failed, leading him to panic and attack Saif Ali Khan before making a hasty exit without stealing anything.

Sources reveal that Shehzad had been without a job for a month and was eager to return to Bangladesh. Lacking the financial resources for his return trip, he sought assistance from various individuals but was unable to afford their demands.

In desperation, he chose to rob a celebrity's home to finance his journey. This plan was motivated by conversations with an auto driver who had mentioned the residences of Shah Rukh Khan and Saif Ali Khan while in Bandra.

According to police, Shehzad had a genuine opportunity to steal cash and valuable items from Saif Ali Khan's home, but his fear of capture caused him to leave empty-handed.

Following the botched robbery, he monitored the investigation closely via news outlets, saving screenshots of suspects that the media displayed. These images were later discovered on his phone.

The Mumbai Police had initially detained two individuals who bore a resemblance to Shehzad, but he managed to avoid capture. The breakthrough in the case occurred on Sunday morning when he was apprehended near Hiranandani Estate in Kasarvadavali, approximately 35 kilometers from Saif Ali Khan's home.

He had been hiding in a labor camp within a wooded area. Realizing that the police were closing in, he attempted to evade capture by concealing himself in bushes; however, he was eventually caught after a seven-hour search operation.

According to DCP Dixit Gedam, Shehzad lacked any Indian identification and the evidence found on him confirmed his Bangladeshi nationality. Authorities reported that he had been residing in Mumbai for four months under the alias Bijoy Das.

After his arrest, Shehzad reportedly confessed to the crime, stating, "Haan, maine hi kiya hai" (Yes, I did it). He has been remanded to police custody for five days, during which investigators aim to recreate the crime scene at Saif Ali Khan's residence in Bandra as part of their inquiry.

This failed robbery attempt has underscored the susceptibility of high-profile homes despite existing security protocols. The Mumbai Police are continuing their investigation to uncover further information regarding the accused's activities and background.
