New Delhi, Feb 12 (NationPress) The Supreme Court has rejected a request from Indrani Mukerjea, the main suspect in the murder case of her 25-year-old daughter Sheena Bora, for permission to travel abroad.

"The trial is progressing significantly. You may finalize the trial and then proceed," stated a bench comprising Justices M. M. Sundresh and Rajesh Bindal, while instructing the trial court to conclude the unresolved proceedings within a year.

"There is no assurance that you will return," the Justice Sundresh-led bench commented as it dismissed the request for international travel.

In 2022, the Supreme Court had granted bail to Indrani due to her lengthy imprisonment of 6.5 years and the improbability of the trial concluding soon.

Indrani Mukerjea, a well-known media executive and socialite, was previously married to media mogul Peter Mukerjea but they divorced amicably during her incarceration.

She was arrested in 2015 for the murder of Sheena Bora.

Following her arrest, Indrani Mukerjea was placed in judicial custody at Byculla women's prison in Mumbai.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) took over the case, filing charges against Indrani under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including 302 (murder), 201 (disappearance of evidence), 34 (criminal conspiracy), 420 (cheating), 364 (kidnapping), and 120-B (conspiracy).

The former Mukerjea couple, alongside their driver Shyamvar P. Rai and Sanjeev Khanna, Indrani's second spouse, were apprehended at different times in 2015 after the shocking Sheena Bora murder case was uncovered by the Mumbai Police.

At the age of 24, Sheena Bora was in a live-in relationship with Rahul Mukerjea, the younger son of Peter Mukerjea from a previous marriage, who turned out to be her step-brother.

Notably, after marrying Peter Mukerjea, Indrani disguised Sheena and her only brother Mikhail Bora as her siblings, despite being their mother from her first marriage to Siddhartha Das of Shillong.

Indrani allegedly disapproved of Sheena's relationship with Rahul Mukerjea and devised a plan to eliminate her.

Sheena's partially charred body was found in a suitcase, discarded in the dense forests of Raigad on April 24, 2012. Her unidentified, burnt remains were retrieved on May 23, 2012, but no ADR or FIR was filed; only a diary entry was made at the Pen Police Station in Raigad.

Investigations commenced more than two years later in May 2015, after the Mumbai Police received a tip from driver Rai, who was arrested for illegal arms possession. Following extensive questioning, Rai revealed the chilling details of what became one of the most notorious murder cases, capturing public attention for months as sordid revelations surfaced along with Bora's skeletal remains.

In December 2021, Indrani made an unusual claim to the CBI, suggesting her daughter was alive and residing in Jammu and Kashmir, but few believed her.
