Jammu, Nov 20 (NationPress) During a recent operation by the State Investigation Agency (SIA) of J&K Police, AK rifle cartridges, pistol rounds, and hand-grenade pins were seized from the Kashmir Times office located in the Residency Road area of Jammu city.
According to official sources speaking to IANS, these items were part of the findings from the investigation.
The SIA conducted a raid at the newspaper's Jammu office, claiming that it was involved in activities detrimental to national interests.
Officials indicated that SIA teams scrutinized the newspaper's premises and digital systems after initiating a case against the publication and its promoters, who may soon be questioned as the inquiry advances.
The investigation was prompted by allegations that Kashmir Times had celebrated actions against the nation.
In response to the SIA's actions, Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary emphasized that any investigative measures should be firmly based on substantial evidence of misconduct.
“If any wrongdoing has occurred, appropriate measures should be taken. However, actions should not be merely intended to exert pressure,” Choudhary commented.
PDP leader Iltija Mufti, daughter of party head Mehbooba Mufti, stated that Kashmir Times has consistently resisted attempts to suppress its voice.
“Kashmir Times is among the few newspapers in Kashmir that has consistently challenged authority and refused to submit to intimidation. The raiding of their offices under the pretense of combating anti-national activities is outrageous and indicative of overreach,” she stated.
Mufti further criticized the labeling of truth as anti-national in Kashmir.
“Are we all to be considered anti-nationals?” she queried.
PDP youth president Aditya Gupta also condemned the raid, recalling the legacy of the newspaper's founder.
“Shri Ved Bhasin established one of the most courageous voices in J&K – unyielding, honest, and impossible to silence,” Gupta remarked.
He noted that his daughter Anuradha Bhasin has continued this legacy with unwavering determination.
“For decades, the publication has highlighted some of Kashmir's most significant stories regarding human rights violations, disappearances, governance failures, and critical political transitions. Despite threats and pressures, Kashmir Times has remained steadfast,” Gupta asserted.
