Guwahati, March 25 (NationPress) The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Assam Police investigating the connections of Gaurav Gogoi and his spouse Elizabeth Gogoi with Pakistan interrogated an environmentalist based in Ahmedabad this Tuesday.
The team traveled from Guwahati to Ahmedabad to interview Mihir R. Bhatt, the director of the All India Disaster Mitigation Institute (AIDMI).
According to AIDMI's official statement, Bhatt has been involved in addressing extreme heat issues since participating in the Intergovernmental Panel for Climate Change Special Report on managing risks associated with extreme events and disasters to facilitate climate change adaptation.
“Bhatt has spearheaded the Climate and Development Knowledge Network initiatives on heat-related challenges in India and the surrounding region. AIDMI has focused on extreme heat in urban settings for the last six years, particularly regarding small enterprises and family farms in rural areas. He is currently engaged in integrating extreme heat risks into a state’s agriculture risk reduction strategy, enhancing the skills of civil society frontline workers in India, and researching cooling finance demand,” stated AIDMI.
As reported by sources within the Assam Police, Bhatt has previously collaborated with Congress MP Elizabeth Gogoi at the Lead India climate organization, which is currently under scrutiny for its activities.
Previously, the SIT team interrogated two employees of the British High Commission to gather information regarding their associations with the Pakistani national Ali Tauqeer Sheikh, who has been named in a FIR by the Assam Police for his alleged involvement in undermining communal harmony.
Sheikh is under investigation for his alleged role in acquiring critical information concerning national security.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that the SIT has made notable progress in its preliminary investigation into the Pakistan links of Gaurav Gogoi and his wife.
The Chief Minister mentioned that the SIT has uncovered significant evidence linking Pakistani national Ali Sheikh, who has been scrutinized for his numerous visits to India and his contentious social media posts that show a keen interest in Assam's politics.
Sheikh visited India with a large delegation from Pakistan, which included the country’s Attorney General.
Sarma noted that this Pakistani team, which included Sheikh, frequently visited India until 2018 and opted for small hotel accommodations to evade public scrutiny.
“We are investigating the entire network associated with this Pakistani national. If necessary, we will seek assistance from Interpol,” Sarma added, indicating that he has updated the Union Home Minister Amit Shah on recent developments.
A four-member Special Investigation Team was established to investigate the alleged Pakistani connections of Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi and his wife Elizabeth Gogoi.
Gaurav Gogoi has denied any allegations of connections with Pakistan and has expressed his readiness to cooperate with the SIT.
