Surge in Tourist Numbers at Kaziranga After PM Modi's Visit: Assam Chief Minister

Guwahati, Jan 5 (NationPress) Assam's Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma reported on Sunday that tourist numbers have seen a remarkable increase at the Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve after the visit and overnight stay of Prime Minister Narendra Modi last year.
According to CM Sarma, a record-breaking influx of tourists visited this UNESCO world heritage site in Assam, marking the highest numbers in the past two decades.
He noted that approximately 1.6 lakh tourists explored Kaziranga National Park in the last three months alone.
On social media platform X, Sarma stated: "Brand Bharat has its most significant Ambassador in the form of Adarniya Shri @narendramodi ji. Following the Hon'ble Prime Minister's overnight stay and his appeal for people to visit @kaziranga, the park has experienced an unparalleled footfall of 1.6 lakh tourists in the past three months, the highest in 20 years."
Notably, Prime Minister Modi is the first head of state in India to have spent a night at Kaziranga National Park, having visited in March last year, right before the Lok Sabha elections.
During his time there, the Prime Minister participated in an elephant and jeep safari alongside forest officials and senior government representatives.
He also engaged with forest staff, offering several recommendations to boost tourism.
In addition, the Assam government recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Tata Group to develop a luxury hotel in Kaziranga.
CM Sarma emphasized that this initiative aims to enhance tourist inflow to the UNESCO world heritage site.
"In alignment with the Hon'ble PM's focus on promoting tourism in the region and to further attract visitors to the state, we signed an MoU today to establish a 5-star property in Kaziranga. This establishment will offer a world-class experience to guests and encourage them to extend their stay in Assam," the Chief Minister remarked.
