Tanker Capsizes on Jaipur-Delhi Highway, Methanol Leak Detected

Jaipur, Dec 28 (NationPress) A significant disaster was narrowly avoided on Saturday when a tanker transporting methanol capsized on the Jaipur-Delhi highway near Chandwaji in Jaipur.

The accident triggered a rapid response, with multiple fire engines from Jaipur and Jaipur Rural swiftly arriving at the scene. Teams from Civil Defence and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) were also dispatched to manage the hazardous gas leak.

The incident took place around 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, reportedly after the tanker driver swerved to avoid a cow that had wandered onto the road. The resulting capsize caused a diversion of traffic in both directions on the highway.

Emergency responders have rerouted vehicles via the Sundarpur culvert and service roads, while police and Civil Defence teams closely monitor the vicinity to ensure public safety.

Methanol, a highly toxic substance, presents considerable risks, making the situation critical. Authorities are diligently working to contain the leak and avert further complications.

This incident follows a recent highway tragedy. On the Jaipur-Ajmer highway near Bhankrota, an LPG tanker explosion on December 20 resulted in 20 fatalities. The disaster occurred when an LPG tanker making a U-turn collided with an oncoming container, leading to a substantial gas leak and explosion.

The ensuing fire extended over a 500-meter radius, injuring approximately 40 individuals. Four victims were burned alive, and eight others succumbed to their injuries in the hospital, with over 12 individuals still receiving intensive care.

These successive highway incidents have reignited demands from locals for enhanced safety protocols and better regulation of the transportation of hazardous materials along major routes.

According to road safety experts, incomplete construction, abrupt turns, and a lack of traffic awareness contribute to accidents.
