Agartala, Feb 28 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Tripura, Manik Saha, declared on Friday that the state government is implementing various measures aimed at reducing dowry-related incidents to zero.

While speaking at the event titled ‘Swabalambi Naari, Swabalambi Tripura’ (empowered women, self-reliant Tripura), he announced that 80 officials with the rank of Deputy Collector have been appointed as District Dowry Prohibition Officers, and all Sub-divisional Magistrates have been designated as Dowry Prohibition Officers to combat dowry-related cases.

“Although dowry cases in Tripura are relatively few, we cannot afford to be complacent. Our goal is to completely eliminate such cases. We aim to ensure that no woman encounters dowry-related challenges, and to achieve this, we have established these positions and initiated several measures,” stated Saha.

He highlighted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi consistently prioritizes women’s welfare and empowerment. While there were extensive discussions surrounding triple talaq, PM Modi took the groundbreaking step of abolishing this outdated practice.

“Women are integral to family dynamics. Both the Prime Minister and our state government have made numerous decisions focused on women’s welfare. Our approach emphasizes action over mere rhetoric,” he remarked.

Without directly referencing the Congress and Left parties, the Chief Minister pointed out that during previous administrations, women were often utilized for protests, rallies, and slogans. However, since the BJP government assumed power, numerous initiatives have been implemented to enhance women's self-reliance and overall welfare.

Saha further asserted that the current BJP administration is dedicated to ensuring women's protection and economic empowerment.

“Women are gaining independence as the government takes initiatives to elevate their socio-economic status. Consequently, they are becoming more prominent. Development cannot solely rely on men; women also play a vital role. Nowadays, women are reaching new heights—venturing into space, operating trains and airplanes, and excelling in diverse fields,” he emphasized.

He noted the presence of numerous women doctors, engineers, scientists, administrators, and intellectuals making significant contributions in various domains, and mentioned that over 50 percent of seats in the Agartala Municipal Corporation are reserved for women.

Women are now willingly participating in various programs, unlike before, when they were compelled to take part due to threats of losing their MGNREGA cards. He added that wages for MGNREGA are now directly credited to their bank accounts, thanks to PM Modi’s initiatives, eliminating the need for middlemen.

“This signifies transparency. Our government has made this achievable. We have also ensured 33 percent reservation for women in Tripura State Rifles positions,” he stated.

The Chief Minister underscored the government’s commitment to providing women with quality education.

“Our vision extends beyond Agartala; numerous girls have discontinued their education due to financial constraints. To tackle this issue, we have abolished all fees for female students. A new 50-bed hostel has been established in Gonda Twisa (in Dhalai district). Additionally, we have set up women-run police stations across all districts,” he concluded.
