New Delhi, April 12 (NationPress) On Saturday, the Delhi Police declined the request made by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) for a 'Shobha Yatra' in the Jahangirpuri area of the national capital to celebrate Hanuman Jayanti. The police's decision was based on concerns regarding the sensitivity of the situation and its potential impact on law and order in the area.
In an official announcement, the police stated, "Your request to grant permission for the 'Shobha Yatra' on the occasion of Hanuman Jayanti on 12.04.2025, starting from A-Block to K-Block in Jahangirpuri from 12:00 PM onward, was reviewed. However, given the sensitivity and implications on law and order and the security landscape in the area, we cannot grant permission."
Nonetheless, the police have permitted celebrations to occur within the confines of the local temple.

This precautionary decision was made after various Hindu organizations indicated their plans to conduct religious processions in the vicinity.
To prevent any incidents, the Delhi Police has deployed units of the Rapid Action Force (RAF) along with additional personnel in Jahangirpuri.
Previously, the police had granted conditional approval for a Hanuman Jayanti Shobha Yatra, limiting participants to 500, with strict regulations against weapons and a designated route.
The procession was set to occur under stringent surveillance.
Security concerns remain heightened in light of the violent events that transpired during Hanuman Jayanti in 2022.
That year, communal clashes erupted during a procession, resulting in stone pelting, arson, and gunfire. At least eight police officers and numerous devotees were injured during the turmoil.
Following the 2022 incident, the Delhi Police filed a chargesheet against 45 individuals, asserting that the violence was premeditated. The investigation connected the riots to previous CAA-NRC protests and the 2020 North-East Delhi riots.
A total of 44 individuals were arrested, including two minors.
With Jahangirpuri remaining on high alert, authorities are monitoring the situation closely to maintain peace and communal harmony during this religious celebration.
