Vijayashanthi Asserts BRS Lacks Authority to Contest Telangana Talli Design

Hyderabad, Dec 16 (NationPress) Actor and politician Vijayashanthi stated on Monday that the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) holds no legitimate grounds to contest the modifications made to the 'Telangana Talli' (Mother Telangana) statue.
She reminded everyone that the original Telangana Talli statue was inaugurated in 2007 by the Talli Telangana Party, which she established.
In her post on ‘X’, she noted that BS Ramulu had conceptualized Telangana Talli as a representation of the mother for impoverished, vulnerable, and marginalized groups.
Currently affiliated with the Congress, Vijayashanthi remarked that the former TRS, now identified as BRS, was not responsible for the creation of Telangana Talli.
She stated, “Later, the TRS (BRS) revealed a statue of Telangana Talli at their office. However, during their decade-long rule, they failed to grant official recognition and dignity to Telangana Talli.”
The seasoned actor-turned-politician praised the current Congress administration, led by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, for bestowing official status, respect, and government policies for Telangana Talli.
“What right does a political entity like BRS have to dispute the redesign of Telangana Talli?” she queried.
The former MP pointed out that Telangana activists could have protested when BRS altered the design of Telangana Talli.
“Our traditional celebrations like Bonalu and Bathukamma are integral to our culture and will persist across generations. Political parties should not interfere for their own benefit,” she added.
Vijayashanthi’s remarks were made in the wake of a protest by BRS regarding the altered Telangana Talli statue, which was inaugurated at the state Secretariat on December 9.
While Congress asserts that the new design encapsulates the authentic culture and traditions of Telangana, BRS has accused them of undermining the region’s heritage.
BRS leaders have labeled the modified statue as ‘Congress Talli’ due to its representation of the party’s election symbol - the ‘hand’.
The exclusion of Bathukamma in the new design has provoked BRS. In the previous design, the mother figure was depicted carrying Bathukamma (arranged flowers) in her left hand and plants in her right. In contrast, the new version shows her with plants in her left hand while displaying ‘Abhaya Mudra’ with her right hand.
BRS MLC K. Kavitha has initiated a protest against the actions of the Congress government, leading demonstrations while engaging in Bathukamma celebrations alongside other female leaders and party members.
