Jitendra Singh: Women’s Reservation is BJP’s Fundamental Belief
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Shimla, April 19 (NationPress) Union Minister of State for Science and Technology, Jitendra Singh, launched a fierce critique of the Congress and the INDIA bloc regarding the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam. He asserted that this proposed legislation is not merely a policy initiative but embodies the fundamental ideological belief of the BJP and aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of fostering women-led development.
In a media briefing, Singh stated that since 2014, the Modi administration has radically transformed governance by prioritizing women in policy-making and execution. “Women are no longer just passive recipients; they are vital architects of India’s developmental trajectory,” he emphasized, underscoring this shift as a conscious and ongoing strategy.
He recalled Prime Minister Modi’s address on Independence Day in 2014, highlighting that the focus on constructing toilets specifically for women was a pivotal moment in governance priorities.
“What once seemed unconventional has now resulted in dignity, safety, and enhanced health outcomes for millions of women,” he said, pointing out the significant effects of the Swachh Bharat Mission on sanitation and girls’ education.
Singh also emphasized the revolutionary impact of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, which he described as liberating women from harmful indoor pollution, enhancing their health metrics, and allowing for more economic involvement. “This is not just incremental change; this represents structural transformation at the grassroots level,” he noted.
The Union Minister asserted that India has always had vast untapped potential among women but lacked the necessary frameworks to harness it. “In the past decade, the Modi government has unlocked this potential, as seen in the increasing number of women entering civil services, pursuing STEM education, engaging in research, and even serving in combat roles in the armed forces,” he remarked.
“Indian women have transitioned from the periphery to the core and are now stepping into leadership roles.” Regarding the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, he stated that the legislation aims to formalize women’s roles in governance and decision-making processes.
“At a moment when the nation was poised for this historic advance, the opposition opted for obstruction instead of collaboration,” he stated, accusing the Congress and its allies of prioritizing political interests over women’s empowerment.
He characterized the opposition's actions as a “historic betrayal,” observing that while the Congress has spoken about women’s reservation for over half a century, it consistently failed to enact it.
“When a credible, constitutionally sound, and well-researched framework was offered, they fell back on procedural excuses and diversionary arguments. This reveals their lack of genuine intent,” he added.
