Patna, August 2 (NationPress) In a shocking turn of events, Patna's Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kartikeya Sharma revealed on Saturday the apprehension of two young men linked to a horrific double murder and arson incident in Nadwa village, falling under the jurisdiction of the Janipur police station.
The tragedy, which sent shockwaves through the community on July 31, was uncovered as stemming from unrequited love and premeditated vengeance, as stated by the authorities.
During a press briefing, SSP Sharma disclosed that Shubham Kumar (19), a spurned lover, in collusion with his accomplice Roshan Kumar (19), executed this heinous act.
Shubham, harboring profound resentment upon discovering that the girl he had once loved was involved with another individual, allegedly plotted to murder her and her brother.
"The investigation uncovered that Shubham, motivated by the mindset of 'if she can't be mine, she won't be anyone's,' devised the plan a week prior to the incident," SSP Sharma said.
Reports indicate that Shubham and the victim had a relationship during their school years.
However, familial opposition led to their separation.
Despite this breakup, Shubham remained familiar with the family and frequently visited their home.
On the fateful day, Shubham purchased kerosene from a local store.
He then proceeded directly to the victim’s residence.
While the victim's brother was asleep, the girl was awake.
Allegations suggest that Shubham initially attacked the brother, striking him with a brick, and subsequently strangled the girl before igniting the room and locking the house from outside with Roshan's assistance to create an impression of an accident or mystery.
Both suspects fled the scene but were apprehended as investigations were launched by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) established due to the severity of the crime.
"The suspects confessed to their involvement during interrogations. Roshan's primary role was in concealing evidence and aiding in the duo's escape," added the SSP.
The police have also commenced inquiries with the shopkeeper who sold the kerosene to Shubham, aiming to reconstruct the sequence of events and substantiate the premeditated nature of the crime.
It has come to light that the suspects resided only three to four kilometers from the crime scene and had been plotting the act for at least a week.
Patna Police affirmed their ongoing collection of forensic evidence, scrutiny of digital communications between the individuals involved, and thorough investigation into all aspects — particularly motives, abetment, and pre-crime planning.
The brutal nature of the crime has left the local populace reeling.
Security measures in Nadwa village and surrounding areas have been intensified.
Increased police patrols are now in place, and psychological counseling support is being considered for the bereaved family of the victims.
