Gurugram, March 11 (NationPress) Jasmine Shekar captivated audiences with her outstanding play in the initial round of the fifth leg of the Women’s Pro Golf Tour held at the DLF Golf & Country Club. Having previously clinched victory in the opening leg of the 2026 season, Jasmine finished the round with a score of 2-under 70 despite encountering two late bogeys, placing her just one shot ahead of promising amateur Lavanya Gupta (71).
Mannat Brar, who had showcased impressive performances towards the end of last season, secured a solo third place with an even-par 72, as only three players managed to achieve par or better on the challenging Gary Player layout during the first day.
This tournament attracted a record-breaking field of 57 players, including 49 professionals, competing for a substantial Rs. 18 lakh purse. Among the competitors, some emerging talent such as Vidhatri Urs, Lavanya Jadon, and Jahnavi Prakhya each posted scores of 2-over 74.
Jasmine's round began steadily with four pars followed by a birdie on the Par-3 fifth hole. She continued her calm performance with four additional pars, finishing the front nine bogey-free at 1-under. On the back nine, she birdied the 11th hole to push her score to 2-under. Although she faced her first bogey of the day on the 14th, she quickly regained that stroke with a birdie on the 15th, only to drop another shot on the 16th. A final birdie on the 18th secured her 2-under performance for the day.
Amateur Lavanya demonstrated her potential by reaching 3-under through 12 holes, with birdies on the fifth, tenth, and twelfth holes. However, a closing pair of bogeys left her with a score of 71.
Mannat recorded two birdies against a bogey on the front nine, but on the back nine, she had two bogeys and a closing birdie on the 18th.
Prominent players Amandeep Drall (75) and Saanvi Somu (75) found themselves tied for seventh alongside Khushi Khanijau, Anvvi Dahhiya, Nayanika Sanga, Durga Nittur, and Gauri Karhade.
Former Order of Merit champion, Sneha (76), was in 14th place, while Tvesa Malik tied for 15th with a score of 77. The champion of the fourth leg, Ridhima Dilawari, was in a tie for 19th with a score of 78, struggling without any birdies and suffering four bogeys and a double bogey.
