Georgia Plimmer Excluded from Zimbabwe WODIs; Bella James Steps In
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Wellington, March 3 (NationPress) New Zealand cricketer Georgia Plimmer will not participate in the upcoming WODI series against Zimbabwe due to a shoulder injury. Plimmer sustained this injury during a training session amidst the T20I series, which the White Ferns clinched with a 3-0 victory against Zimbabwe, causing her to miss both the second and third T20I matches.
In light of this, New Zealand Cricket has announced that Bella James, who was initially summoned as a backup for Plimmer prior to the third T20I last Sunday, will continue with the team as her replacement for the ODI series.
Head coach Ben Sawyer expressed his disappointment, stating, “Georgia is a vital player in our top order, and her infectious energy is something we greatly appreciate. It’s unfortunate that she will miss the next series.”
Bella James made her ODI debut against Australia in December 2024 and participated in two matches against them. She was part of the ODI World Cup last year, although she did not make it into the playing eleven.
Coach Sawyer believes James is an excellent addition to the squad. “Bella is an accomplished cricketer with nearly 100 List-A matches under her belt. Her experience is invaluable, and she will seamlessly integrate back into the team,” he remarked.
Additionally, Nensi Patel and Izzy Sharp have been included in the squad and will make their ODI debuts if selected.
Nensi excelled by taking five wickets in the T20Is against Zimbabwe, while Sharp contributed scores of 18 not out and 22 not out.
The three ODIs commencing on March 5 are part of the 2025–2029 ICC Women's Championship cycle.
New Zealand's ODI squad against Zimbabwe includes:
