Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma on Thursday, 6 August expressed confidence that the BRICS Industry and Trade Ministers' Meeting being held in Jaipur would deepen international cooperation and open fresh avenues for investment and industrial expansion in the state. The two-day meeting, scheduled for 6 and 7 August, has brought together ministers and senior officials from BRICS member nations to deliberate on trade, industry, and economic cooperation.

Key Dignitaries and Delegations

Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal, Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Jitin Prasada, Rajasthan Deputy Chief Minister Diya Kumari, and Industries and Commerce Minister Col. Rajyavardhan Rathore attended a cultural programme and dinner hosted in honour of the visiting ministers and delegates. Senior representatives from BRICS member nations were also present at the event.

What Goyal Said

Welcoming the delegates, Piyush Goyal described Jaipur as a city that blends centuries-old craftsmanship with modern industrial aspirations. He urged BRICS countries to convert shared aspirations into practical innovation and cooperation by leveraging complementary strengths, with the goal of building resilient and self-reliant industries. Goyal noted that PartNIR has emerged as the primary platform for advancing such cooperation under India's presidency.

Recalling that the BRICS journey began with the first summit in Yekaterinburg, Russia, in 2009, Goyal acknowledged Brazil's leadership during its 2025 presidency and reaffirmed India's commitment to a pragmatic approach. He said India's presidency aims to promote trust among businesses, investors, and innovators while delivering tangible outcomes for all member nations.

Key Outcomes Under PartNIR

The minister outlined progress across four priority areas during India's presidency. Significant decisions included the finalisation of a cooperation framework for the BRICS SME Working Group, adoption of the Terms of Reference and Work Plan for the BRICS Working Group on the Photovoltaic Industry, approval of an action plan to promote innovation-led growth through startups, and a renewed emphasis on strengthening transport and logistics networks — including GIS-based infrastructure planning and city logistics systems.

Rajasthan's Role and CM Sharma's Remarks

Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma called it a matter of pride for Rajasthan to host a gathering of this scale, expressing confidence that the event would create new opportunities for investment and industrial growth in the state. Delegates were welcomed with traditional Rajasthani hospitality and a cultural showcase of the state's rich heritage.

Earlier on Thursday, Sharma was in New Delhi, where he met several Union ministers including Home Minister Amit Shah, to discuss matters related to Rajasthan's development. The Jaipur meeting marks a significant diplomatic moment for the state as it seeks to position itself as a destination for global industrial investment.
