Vadodara, April 16 (NationPress) The Deputy Chief Minister of Gujarat, Harsh Sanghavi, announced on Thursday that the 'Nari Shakti Vandan Abhiniyam' (Act) will provide a 33% reservation for women in legislative bodies, significantly enhancing women's involvement in political leadership. He characterized this initiative as a structural reform aimed at enabling representation from everyday families in Parliament.

Sanghavi made these statements during the 'Vikas Sankalp Sabha' in Vadodara, asserting that this legislation will reshape the makeup of elected institutions by facilitating increased participation of women from non-traditional political backgrounds.

“Previously, it was primarily individuals from political families who occupied seats in Parliament. Now, thanks to the 33% reservation, daughters and sisters from regular households will also have the opportunity to enter Parliament and govern the nation,” he stated.

He emphasized that India has historically granted women a high cultural and spiritual standing, and this legislation further solidifies their role in the public arena.

Sanghavi expressed his appreciation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for championing the women's reservation in legislative bodies.

He further noted that this reform will empower women from middle-class and non-political backgrounds to engage in national decision-making processes, deeming it a crucial step towards greater inclusivity in governance.

At the event, the Deputy Chief Minister unveiled a series of infrastructure and urban development projects for Vadodara.

These initiatives encompass the construction of a 75-meter ring road to alleviate traffic congestion, along with enhancements to urban facilities, including sports complexes and swimming pools throughout various city zones.

He also detailed plans for improved public infrastructure, which includes mega footpaths, drinking water initiatives, and the redevelopment of Sursagar Lake, featuring upgraded lighting and a proposed laser show.

Addressing administrative measures, he mentioned that the Disturbed Areas Act has been reinforced to ensure stricter compliance regarding public order and the protection of citizens’ rights.

In discussing the political landscape, he rebuked the opposition, stating, “Allegations concerning electronic voting machines have arisen in past elections following losses. The ruling party and the people of Gujarat operate as a 'large joint family'.
