Will Humayun Kabir's Flag Soon Fly Across Bengal?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Murshidabad, Dec 22 (NationPress) Humayun Kabir, the suspended MLA from the Trinamool Congress, announced on Monday that his party's flag will soon be visible throughout West Bengal. He emphasized his commitment to serving the state's residents despite his separation from the ruling party.
Kabir, representing the Bharatpur Assembly constituency in the minority-heavy Murshidabad district, is poised to formally announce his new political party later today.
In an interview with IANS, Kabir enthused, "I am delighted to deliver a fresh message to the public. My goal is to focus on the common people of Bengal. I am prepared to confront any hurdles to achieve this mission."
Alongside the party's launch, Kabir will reveal its office-bearers and district presidents. He claimed that his new political entity intends to contest in over 100 Assembly constituencies in the upcoming state elections.
The suspended lawmaker expressed confidence that his party's candidates would secure a significant number of seats, positioning them as an important player in the formation of the next state government.
Feeling optimistic about the impending announcement, Kabir stated that the party's flag, which will be unveiled later today, will soon be waved across the entire state.
"I haven't revealed my flag yet; it hasn’t been handed over to anyone. Today, I will showcase it. Soon, it will be seen in Kolkata, Kakdip, Cooch Behar, Alipur, Jalpaiguri, Uttar Dinajpur, Dakshin Dinajpur, Malda, and throughout the state. Murshidabad is my birthplace, and I have a deep connection here. It is certain that my party's flag will fly here," Kabir stated to IANS.
The formal announcement is set to take place in Mirzapur, near Beldanga, which is also the location for the proposed Babri Mosque that Kabir plans to establish.
The event is scheduled to commence at noon and will run until 3 p.m.
"During this event, we will announce my party's office-bearers. Al Haaj Haji from West Medinipur, a close associate, has shown interest in taking on a leadership role. His name will be revealed soon," Kabir mentioned.
He also indicated plans for a roadshow from Berhampore with his supporters.
Although Kabir has not officially confirmed the name of his new party, a source close to him indicated that two options are being considered: the Indian Conservative Party and the Janata Unnayan Party.
Kabir has also shared his preferred choices for the party symbol, with his first choice being a "table," followed by "twin roses."
"If I do not obtain either of the two, I will consider a third option," he noted.
Kabir was suspended from the Trinamool Congress earlier this month after receiving multiple reprimands from party leadership.
The suspension occurred just days before the foundation stone-laying ceremony for the proposed Babri Mosque on December 6. This mosque aims to replicate the original structure that existed in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, before it was demolished on December 5, 1992.
