Iran's Diplomatic Envoy to India Promises Strong Retaliation Against 'Criminal Military Aggression'
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, March 5 (NationPress) Iran issued a stern warning on Thursday regarding what it termed as criminal military aggression from the US and Israel. The Iranian envoy to India emphasized that Tehran did not provoke the conflict, yet is prepared to retaliate decisively.
In a media address, Iranian Ambassador to India Dr. Mohammad Fathali stated that his nation is aware of the hostile intentions directed at it but faced aggression before diplomatic avenues could be explored.
"We were engaged in negotiations. They dismantled the negotiation process. They initiated the war. We are experiencing military aggression, which we categorize as criminal. We have declared our intention to respond strongly," he asserted.
The ambassador highlighted alleged attacks on civilian sites, claiming that elementary schools were among the first targeted, resulting in the tragic loss of 160 girl students in a single incident. "This is horrific," he stated, accusing the aggressors of escalating the conflict beyond mere military targets.
Regarding an alleged attack by a US submarine on an Iranian warship in the Indian Ocean, Fathali noted that the US understands Iran’s military capabilities. "They weigh the costs and benefits and are fully aware of Iran's power. We do not seek war; they initiated it. However, the length of this conflict lies within our control. This is crucial," he emphasized, suggesting Tehran retains strategic advantages.
With concerns rising over a potential blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, which could significantly impact global fuel prices, the Ambassador clarified that no formal decision has been made on such actions. "We do not possess any information regarding this matter," he stated.
In response to inquiries about reported strikes in neighboring regions, Fathali maintained that Iran does not conduct attacks against its neighbors and seeks to uphold good relations. However, he cautioned that Tehran would target bases used to launch attacks against it. "They provide bases for the US, and from these locations, they have attacked elementary schools," he claimed.
On India's stance amid the escalating tensions, the envoy expressed that Iran values its long-standing relationship with New Delhi. "We have a strong relationship with the Indian government, rooted in history, and we believe in enhancing our ties. Nonetheless, this situation tests all governments and peoples involved," he commented.
He reiterated that Iran is poised for both conflict and dialogue, stating, "Iran is prepared for both war and peace, but our preference is unequivocally for peace. Regrettably, they initiated the war," he concluded.
These statements come during a period of heightened tensions in West Asia, raising concerns that any disruption in crucial maritime routes could have significant repercussions for global energy markets, including India's oil and gas supplies.
