Jodhpur, March 24 (NationPress) Demonstrations broke out in Jodhpur on Monday in response to Samajwadi Party MP, Ramji Lal Suman's contentious remarks in Parliament, where he labeled the 16th Century Rajput monarch Rana Sanga as a "traitor".

Members of the Marwar Rajput Samaj submitted a memorandum to the Vice President of India via the District Collector, urging the expulsion of Suman from Parliament.

In an interview with IANS, Hanuman Singh Khagta, President of the Rajput Marwar Samaj, criticized Suman's comments. “It is regrettable to make such statements about Rana Sanga, who safeguarded the culture of Hindustan and Sanatan,” he stated.

Khagta also took aim at the Samajwadi Party, saying, “They don red caps and make misleading statements. If Rana Sanga had not defended our homeland, they might have worn green caps instead of red. He gave his life to uphold our nation's honor.”

Khagta called for Suman to apologize in Parliament and retract his statement. “If the leaders of the Samajwadi Party are unaware of history, they should refrain from commenting on it. Should he fail to apologize, we will initiate protests nationwide,” he warned.

The uproar began during a discussion on the Home Ministry's operations in the Rajya Sabha on Friday, when Suman associated Rana Sanga with Babur’s invasion of India.

Responding to the BJP’s persistent comments regarding the lineage of Indian Muslims, Suman remarked, “BJP officials frequently assert that Muslims possess Babur's DNA. But who welcomed Babur to India? It was Rana Sanga who invited him to defeat Ibrahim Lodi. By that reasoning, if Muslims are descendants of Babur, then you too are descendants of Rana Sanga—a traitor.”

His statements have ignited significant backlash, especially among Rajput communities, who regard Rana Sanga as a figure of valor and patriotism.

Previously, Rajasthan BJP legislator Vishvaraj Singh Mewar, a descendant of Rana Sanga, also demanded stringent action against the Samajwadi Party MP for suggesting that the Rajput ruler was responsible for inviting Babur to India, which ultimately led to the establishment of Mughal dominance in the nation.
