Atishi Highlights BJP's Support for Raghav Chadha Amid AAP Turmoil
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, April 3 (NationPress) In the midst of the ongoing discord within the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Atishi, who serves as the Leader of Opposition in Delhi, addressed the situation on Friday after AAP MP Raghav Chadha made statements following his ousting as Deputy Leader in the Rajya Sabha. His replacement by Ashok Mittal has sparked discussions. Atishi remarked that if the BJP has rallied around him, offering praise and even questioning his failure to join their ranks, it unmistakably indicates the current political landscape.
This statement follows Chadha's recent post on the social media platform X, where he expressed, “Silenced, not defeated. My message to the ‘aam aadmi’: Khamosh karwaya gaya hun, hara nahi hun.”
In her conversation with IANS, Atishi emphasized that political affiliations have become increasingly transparent.
“It’s abundantly clear; no further explanation is necessary. If the BJP has sided with him and is lauding him, questioning why he hasn’t allied with them, it illustrates where everyone’s loyalties lie,” she asserted during her discussion with IANS.
Atishi further elaborated that the matter transcends personal connections.
“This is not about conflicts or personal ties. Raghav Chadha is a friend; we have collaborated within the political sphere and the Aam Aadmi Party for the last 15 years. This isn’t about friendship; it’s about our nation and its Constitution,” she conveyed to IANS.
She also voiced her apprehensions regarding the current state of democracy in India, alleging electoral misconduct.
“Currently, democracy and the Constitution are under siege. What is occurring in West Bengal — claims of erroneous vote counting and administrative partiality — reflects what we observed during the Delhi elections. The BJP is misusing institutions such as the Election Commission, thus undermining the essence of democracy,” Atishi stated.
Commenting on parliamentary proceedings, she noted that when the Trinamool Congress proposed an impeachment motion, Chadha refrained from signing it, and during the Opposition's walkout, he opted to abstain.
“When the party instructed him to address issues like the rising prices of LPG cylinders impacting the common people, he chose not to. He also failed to raise questions regarding the government’s position on international issues,” she added.
