New Delhi, Jan 22 (NationPress) As the Delhi Assembly elections draw near, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the governing Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) are embroiled in a fierce exchange regarding the surge of vehicles from Punjab and police presence in the capital, leading the BJP to express security worries in the election-focused city.

On Wednesday, BJP candidate Parvesh Verma highlighted the issue of Punjab-registered vehicles operating in the national capital and questioned their intentions.

He claimed that these vehicles are specifically seen in the New Delhi area, which is his battleground against former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

"Hundreds of vehicles bearing Punjab number plates are on the roads in the capital as Republic Day approaches. Why have they entered Delhi at such a sensitive time? Their unlawful presence raises alarms about Delhi's security," Parvesh Verma conveyed to reporters.

He further alleged that they are installing Chinese CCTV cameras to obscure the failures of the AAP government and mislead the electorate in the area.

The AAP retaliated against the BJP candidate's accusations of violating the poll code, branding it an insult to the Punjabi populace.

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann stated that Delhi is the nation's core, and every individual has the right to visit it. Thus, such unfounded and malicious comments are intended to belittle the contributions of Punjabis.

"This assertion is deeply troubling and derogatory towards Punjabis. They are marking vehicles with Punjab number plates and questioning why we are in Delhi. It implies that Punjabis pose a threat to national security. This is profoundly offensive to both myself and every Punjabi in the nation," CM Mann expressed on X, emphasizing the pain and insult felt by the Punjabi community.

Kejriwal also countered the BJP's allegations, accusing them of undermining the sacrifices made by the Punjabi community that has resided in Delhi for decades.

In the meantime, Congress candidate Sandeep Dikshit echoed similar sentiments, noting that he has come across images of Punjab Police campaigning for AAP.

Dikshit mentioned that he urged the local SHO to take notice of the situation and act promptly against such blatant breaches of the electoral model code of conduct.
