Kolkata, Feb 24 (NationPress) The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday presented a progress report regarding its ongoing investigation into the R.G. Kar rape and murder incident at a special court in Kolkata, announcing that a supplementary charge sheet will be submitted soon.

The special court recently convicted and sentenced the civic volunteer and sole accused in this case, Sanjay Ray, to life imprisonment.

With the conviction of the main accused concluded, the upcoming supplementary charge sheet is anticipated to shed light on the investigation, particularly concerning the tampering and alteration of evidence.

The CBI's attorney informed the court that investigators continue to examine the potential tampering of evidence, and the supplementary charge sheet will be available shortly.

Additionally, the CBI's counsel opposed a request from former SHO of Tala Police Station Abhijit Mondal at the special court to retrieve his mobile SIM card, which is currently held by investigators.

The attorney emphasized that this specific SIM is a critical piece of evidence and cannot be returned to the accused.

The CBI had previously arrested Mondal and R.G. Kar's former Principal Sandip Ghosh on charges of evidence tampering. However, both received “default bail” from the special court due to the CBI's failure to file a supplementary charge sheet within 90 days post-arrest.

While Mondal is out on bail, Ghosh remains in judicial custody due to an ongoing investigation by the CBI regarding multi-crore financial irregularities at the R.G. Kar Medical College & Hospital.

The progress report was filed in response to complaints from the victim’s parents regarding the CBI's lack of updates on the investigation's progress.
