Delhi: Congress Demonstrates Against AAP Government Over 'Broken Promises' to Women

New Delhi, Jan 4 (NationPress) Congress leaders gathered for a demonstration against the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) administration at Vijay Chowk in the capital on Saturday, accusing it of failing to meet its election commitments of providing Rs 1,000 a month to every woman.
They claimed that the AAP government in Punjab had launched similar welfare initiatives, which remain unfulfilled to this day.
AAP's proposed 'Mukhya Mantri Mahila Samman Yojana' in Delhi promises a monthly allowance of Rs 2,100 for women aged over 18.
During a media interaction, Senior Congress leader and Punjab Leader of Opposition Partap Singh Bajwa labeled AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal as the 'biggest fraud' and criticized his administration.
The protest saw the participation of Congress Rajya Sabha MP Ajay Maken, Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) President Devendra Yadav, Punjab Congress President Amarinder Singh Raja, along with other senior Congress figures.
In a statement to IANS, DPCC Chief Devendra Yadav accused AAP of misleading women in both Punjab and Delhi.
'Three years ago, Kejriwal promised Rs 1,000 per month to every woman in Punjab. Women filled out forms and were issued cards, but after three years, not a single penny has been transferred. Now, they are making similar claims in Delhi,' he elaborated.
Yadav also criticized AAP for cutting the budget for the Ladli Yojana, initiated by the Congress government, which provided financial support to girls and widows during Sheila Dikshit's tenure as Delhi Chief Minister.
Partap Singh Bajwa cautioned Delhi voters about AAP's governance, citing the party's alleged shortcomings in Punjab.
'Kejriwal is the biggest fraud of this century. He transformed a revenue-generating state into a deficit state and deceived women with false promises,' he stated to IANS.
Punjab MP Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa challenged AAP to keep its promises to women in Punjab before making new commitments in Delhi.
'Rs 36,000 per woman is owed in Punjab. Why can't they transfer this amount now?' he questioned, noting that the Model Code of Conduct has not yet been enforced.
Amarinder Singh Raja Warring supported these views, urging Delhi voters not to place their trust in AAP.
'We don’t want the women of Delhi to experience the same betrayal as those in Punjab,' he remarked to IANS.
Simultaneously, women from Punjab also protested, demanding that AAP honor its pre-election commitments. Some demonstrators accused Kejriwal of deception and cautioned Delhi women against believing similar promises.
However, the Delhi Police quickly apprehended the protesting women.
With Assembly elections anticipated in February, Congress is amplifying its campaign against AAP, accusing it of making false assurances to women in both regions. The Election Commission is yet to officially announce the poll dates.
