New Delhi, Feb 22 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Delhi, Rekha Gupta, who also heads the State Names Authority (SNA), has sanctioned the renaming of two forthcoming Metro stations and has altered the names of seven additional stations, while deciding to keep the original names of 12 stations, as confirmed by an official announcement on Sunday.

The modifications followed a thorough review of the names of 21 stations outlined in the Detailed Project Report (DPR) from the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC). The intention behind these changes is to ensure that station names resonate with local identity and offer clearer geographic markers for commuters.

As stated, the two stations that have undergone complete renaming are Haiderpur Village (previously known as North Pitampura) and Madhuban Chowk (formerly Pitampura). These changes were made to better align with the local identity and widely recognized geographical landmarks of their respective areas.

“Metro stations are not just transit points; they embody the identity and cultural significance of the regions they serve. Each name was chosen after extensive and thoughtful discussions,” remarked Chief Minister Rekha Gupta.

In detailing the decision, Gupta explained that out of the 21 proposed names in the DPR, the Authority chose to maintain 12 names, modify seven, and completely rename two stations after careful scrutiny.

She noted that various essential factors influenced the revision of station names, including the historical, social, and cultural relevance of the area, local identity, and input from public representatives and community members.

The Chief Minister highlighted that the updated names were finalized to minimize confusion among commuters and to ensure they accurately represent the geographical identity of the locality.

“Where appropriate, composite names that include nearby notable areas have been approved to aid passengers in easier navigation,” she added.

The Metro stations retaining their originally proposed names as per the project report consist of Majlis Park, Bhalaswa, Haiderpur Badli Mor, Deepali Chowk, Yamuna Vihar, Bhajanpura, Khajuri Khas, Soorghat, Jharoda Majra, Burari, Pushpanjali, and Maujpur-Babarpur.

The modified station names include Uttari Pitampura–Prashant Vihar (previously Prashant Vihar), Jagatpur–Wazirabad (formerly Jagatpur), Nanak Pyau–Derawal Nagar (previously Derawal Nagar), Khanpur–Vayusainabad (formerly Khanpur), Nanaksar–Sonia Vihar (previously Sonia Vihar), Shri Ram Mandir Mayur Vihar (formerly Mayur Vihar Pocket–1), and Mangolpur Kalan–West Enclave (formerly West Enclave).

The Chief Minister stated that the Authority ensured each station name reflects local identity and public sentiment while adhering to established naming standards.

The State Names Authority reached this decision following thorough discussions and factual assessments of each proposal. The Authority will also consider future name revision requests based on public interest and adherence to set procedures, the statement concluded.
