Meghalaya Chief Minister Initiates 'Paint My City' Campaign to Beautify Urban Areas

Shillong, Dec 5 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Conrad Sangma, officially launched the 'Paint My City' campaign on Thursday, which is designed to improve the visual appeal of urban areas in this hilly region.
During his address, Sangma emphasized, “This initiative seeks to uplift the aesthetic quality of our towns. As part of the project, we will paint the boundary walls and the buildings of governmental offices and educational institutions.”
The campaign was inaugurated in Tura and will also extend to Jowai and Shillong.
The Chief Minister expressed that the overarching aim of this campaign is to turn Tura into one of the cleanest and most visually appealing towns in the nation.
Sangma encouraged the local community to engage in this initiative and set a benchmark for both the state and the country.
Earlier, the Chief Minister laid the foundation stone for the Shillong Ropeway Project, which was inaugurated by the President of India, Draupadi Murmu, on January 16 of this year, alongside Tourism Minister Paul Lyngdoh.
This represents Meghalaya's inaugural passenger ropeway project, developed in collaboration with the French company POMA, which will primarily supply the necessary equipment.
Sangma praised the involved parties for completing the required documentation and formalities to kickstart the project.
“We faced numerous challenges, including land acquisition and regulatory permissions, along with establishing the Meghalaya Ropeway Development Authority to ensure safety standards and licensing. The project’s initiation is the result of four years of diligent preparation,” he stated.
He also expressed his appreciation to Raid Laban Dorbar Shnong Pyllun for their cooperation. The project will traverse through Laban, Madan Laban, Upper Lumparing, Lower Lumparing, Lumkjatsngi, Oxford Hills, and Rngi Shillong.
Discussing the importance of community involvement in the project, the Chief Minister remarked, “It is crucial for the community to collaborate with the government. This project is a product of partnerships among all stakeholders. It will facilitate revenue generation, benefiting the Dorbar and other participants in the endeavor.”
Sangma also commended the armed forces, particularly the Air Force, for their unwavering support and assistance in the project’s initiation.
