Jabalpur, Nov 1 (NationPress) The General Secretary of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), Dattatreya Hosabale, emphasized on Saturday that the caste-based census must fulfill its intended purpose without being influenced by political agendas, insisting that the Sangh operates independently of caste divisions.
While addressing the media during a three-day session in Jabalpur, which saw participation from over 400 prominent members including Sarsanghchalak Mohan Bhagwat, Hosabale highlighted the misuse of caste discussions primarily for electoral gains.
He maintained that unity and harmony are crucial for the nation's advancement.
The senior RSS leader pointed out that various castes still face challenges and require empowerment.
He noted that data from the caste census is vital in ensuring that the benefits of government initiatives reach those in need.
"The RSS does not operate on caste lines; however, any data that can benefit the country should be collected," he stated, referencing the Supreme Court's position that such enumeration could proceed if deemed necessary.
During a press conference post-executive meeting, the RSS general secretary remarked on the diversity of Hindu society, which encompasses numerous castes and sects as well as spiritual organizations.
"The development of social goodwill is essential to bolster confidence within society," he added.
Additionally, Hosabale raised concerns about the alarming rise of drug addiction among the youth, indicating that, "Drugs are being peddled even near prestigious institutions like IIMs and schools. Comprehensive efforts are required across administrative, religious, and social sectors to safeguard the youth."
The RSS National Executive Body convened in Jabalpur to deliberate on programs commemorating the 100th anniversary of the organization and other pressing national matters.
