Terrorists Launch Grenade Assault on Army Post in Surankote, J&K; Search Operations Ongoing

Jammu, Dec 4 (NationPress) Terrorists targeted an army installation in Surankote town of Poonch district in Jammu and Kashmir by launching two grenades on Wednesday morning. One grenade exploded but fortunately did not result in any damage.
Officials reported that the grenades were thrown at the post situated behind an army camp.
“One grenade detonated without causing harm, while the other, which did not explode, was safely defused later. A coordinated search operation is currently in progress to locate the assailants,” the officials stated.
Earlier, a loud explosion resonated in Surankote, prompting immediate action from joint security forces.
Authorities had earlier indicated that the explosion likely occurred near an army facility in Surankote.
In recent months, following the peaceful and participatory Lok Sabha and Legislative Assembly elections, there has been a noticeable uptick in terrorist activities within the union territory.
In response, security forces, including police and military personnel, have intensified operations targeting terrorists and their associates.
The majority of these attacks have been concentrated in the Jammu division, particularly in the districts of Poonch, Rajouri, Doda, Kathua, Kishtwar, Reasi, and Udhampur.
Some of these heinous assaults have been directed against defenseless civilians.
On Tuesday, security forces eliminated a highly sought-after terrorist from the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), identified as Junaid Ahmad Bhat from the Qaimoh area of Kulgam district.
Bhat was implicated in the killings of seven civilians in the Gagangir region of Ganderbal district on October 20, among whom were six non-workers from an infrastructure company and a local doctor.
On November 2, terrorists attacked the bustling Sunday market near the Tourist Reception Centre (TRC) in Srinagar, resulting in the death of a 42-year-old woman, Abida from Bandipora district, and injuring nine other civilians.
Following the attack, police apprehended three local suspects from the Ikhrajpora area of Srinagar, who executed the grenade assault under the instructions of LeT operatives based across the border.
Additionally, on October 24, terrorists ambushed an army vehicle in the Botapathri region of Gulmarg hill station, resulting in the deaths of three soldiers and two civilian porters working alongside the army.
