Gurugram, May 6 (NationPress) - In a significant development for the Old Gurugram Metro project, five new underpasses are slated for construction by Gurugram Metro Rail Limited (GMRL), according to official sources.
The detailed project report (DPR) for these underpasses is now in the pipeline to be prepared by GMRL.
These underpasses will be strategically located at various points: the Sector-3A/4/5 Chowk near Railway Road, from the Sector-5 junction to Sheetla Mata Road (one-way), Bajghera Road along Sector-5 (one way) to Krishna Chowk, Rejangla Chowk, and Palam Vihar Road leading to Udyog Vihar and Old Delhi Road, as well as at the Palam Vihar Road Junction.
The overall construction cost for these five underpasses is estimated to be around Rs 350 crore. This initiative aims to alleviate traffic congestion in the old city. Furthermore, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) will also be constructing a flyover at Umang Bhardwaj Chowk, an official added.
GMRL is actively advancing plans for a 28.5-km Metro route connecting Millennium City Centre to Cyber City.
In the initial phase, a tender worth Rs 1,286 crore has been issued for civil works extending from Millennium City Centre to Sector-9.
Construction of the Bakhtawar Chowk underpass will also be undertaken by GMRL in this first phase, transitioning from the previous responsibility of the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA).
This underpass will be constructed in conjunction with the Metro project at an estimated cost of Rs 80.45 crore.
The GMDA board, presided over by Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, recently discussed the construction of these five underpasses. It was resolved that GMRL would handle the construction and the DPR-related tasks.
The DPR for all five underpasses will be managed by GMRL's Systra agency. GMDA will finance the construction costs for GMRL.
Given that the work is centralized under a single agency, construction will commence promptly alongside the Metro.
GMRL will prioritize construction extending to Millennium City Metro Station, covering areas like Sector-45, Cyber Park, Sector-47, Subhash Chowk, Sector-48, Sector-72A, Hero Honda Chowk, Udyog Vihar Phase-6, Sector-10, Sector-37, Basai Village, and Sector-9.
The second phase will encompass stations in Sector-7, Sector-4, Sector-5, Ashok Vihar, Sector-3, Bajghera Road, Palam Vihar Extension, Sector-23A, Sector-22, Udyog Vihar Phase-4, Udyog Vihar Phase-5, and Cyber City.
