Chennai, Mar 18 (NationPress) The producers of director Karthik Subbaraj’s thrilling action film ‘Retro’, starring actors Suriya and Pooja Hegde, have revealed that Suriya received martial arts training in Thailand specifically for the film’s stunt sequences.
Continuing their tradition of sharing humorous and memorable moments from the sets of ‘Retro’ as a comic strip, Stone Bench Films, the production company alongside Suriya’s 2D Entertainment, recently unveiled its sixth comic strip titled ‘EPI006: Kech Poata Sketch’ on their X timeline.
The production team indicated that in their quest for a stunt master who could elevate the film’s action, they chose Kecha, renowned for his work on the acclaimed film Ong Bak 2.
“After moments of joy and laughter, it was time to embark on an action-packed journey. Who would be the stunt master capable of making Retro even more remarkable? Kecha was destined to be the grandmaster to lead the charge. Having contributed to films like Ong Bak 2 and Baahubali 2, Kecha is a prominent figure in Thailand. His preparation and patience were truly impressive during the shoot. Director Karthik Subbaraj made numerous Zoom calls to ensure the stunt team received clear instructions,” the production house mentioned.
They also highlighted that stunt choreographer Kecha embraced the challenge of Karthik Subbaraj’s request for diverse fighting styles, ensuring that no two fight sequences were alike.
Furthermore, they stated, “Karthik Subbaraj, known for his aesthetic vision, ensured that the stunts would be unforgettable. The beauty of cinema lies in collaborating with talented individuals from different parts of the globe. Communication was seamless, fueled by a shared passion for filmmaking. Whenever Kecha said ‘can, can’, it actually signified, ‘Don’t worry, the job is as good as done’.”
The producers also revealed that Suriya traveled to Thailand for training in various fighting styles, impressing them with his dedication and hard work.
Besides Suriya and Pooja Hegde, ‘Retro’, set to release on May 1, will also feature a talented ensemble including Malayalam actors Joju George and Jayaram, along with Tamil actor Karunakaran.
The film’s music is composed by Santhosh Narayanan, while cinematography is handled by Shreyaas Krishna. The editing is managed by Shafique Mohamed Ali, and art direction is by Jacki, Mayapandi. With a strong emphasis on action, the film will showcase stunts choreographed by Kecha Khamphakdee.
