Kolkata, June 10 (NationPress) The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) presented its fourth status report concerning the investigation into the broader conspiracy surrounding the tragic rape and murder of R.G. Kar at the Kolkata trial court on Tuesday.
In earlier reports, the CBI identified several individuals whose statements were taken by the investigating team.
In the initial two reports, a total of 36 individuals were mentioned, with 24 listed in the first report and 12 in the second.
On Tuesday, the trial court judge instructed the CBI to provide the next report, including comprehensive documentation of the recorded statements from these 36 individuals.
The judge emphasized the seriousness of the case, highlighting that a woman doctor was raped and murdered while on duty at her workplace.
Meanwhile, the victim's family counsel criticized the CBI for seemingly being evasive in their reports, claiming, "The fourth status report is merely a rehash of previous submissions," and urged the CBI to conduct thorough custodial interrogations of those who had contact with the victim shortly before the incident.
The lifeless body of the victim, a doctor at the state-run R.G. Kar Medical College & Hospital, was discovered in a seminar room within the hospital on the morning of August 9 last year.
To date, only one individual, civic volunteer Sanjay Roy, has been convicted and sentenced to life in prison for his involvement in the case. The victim’s parents have consistently asserted that Roy is not the sole perpetrator of this horrific crime.
They have also expressed concerns regarding the CBI’s lackadaisical approach to the investigation from the outset.
