New Delhi, Feb 16 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Delhi, Rekha Gupta, initiated the groundwork for a series of development initiatives valued at Rs 1,075 crore in East Delhi, as reported by an official.

The ceremony took place at Ramlila Ground in Vivek Vihar, where the Chief Minister highlighted that robust infrastructure is crucial for achieving balanced progress in Delhi. She noted that these projects are set to enhance traffic management and offer long-term solutions to challenges such as waterlogging.

Present at the event was Union Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways Harsh Malhotra, who joined the Chief Minister in launching projects primarily associated with the Public Works Department (PWD) and the Irrigation and Flood Control Department.

Chief Minister Gupta remarked that the residents of the Trans-Yamuna area had long been anticipating significant improvement in their lanes, drains, and roads.

She stated that the commencement of these projects, totaling nearly Rs 1,075 crore, represents a pivotal step in addressing their long-standing demands, emphasizing the government's commitment to equitable development across Delhi and providing citizens with facilities that meet global standards.

Criticizing previous administrations, she asserted that persistent issues like damaged roads, open drains, and insufficient educational and healthcare facilities after years of governance indicate a lack of effective administration.

“Our government is focused on delivering tangible results rather than engaging in politics. No region of Delhi will be neglected in terms of development,” she affirmed.

Attendees included Cabinet Minister Pravesh Sahib Singh, the Chairman of the Trans-Yamuna Development Board, and several MLAs from various constituencies.

She emphasized the importance of bridging the divide between the banks of the Yamuna River and assured that development will be uniformly distributed throughout the city.

As infrastructure like roads and drains are developed, citizens will witness the direct benefits of their trust in the government, she assured.

Chief Minister Gupta highlighted that in the past year, the Delhi government has adopted a new work culture aimed at expediting development.

She stated that regular oversight, timely execution, and transparency are now top priorities.

This event is not merely a foundation-laying ceremony but a pledge to foster a more developed Delhi. Officials have been instructed to ensure that all projects are completed on time and meet high-quality standards.

The PWD will embark on enhancing 236 roads at an investment of about Rs 782 crore. Upon completion, these improvements will facilitate smoother traffic flow and offer a safer, more convenient travel experience for residents.

Additionally, five-foot overbridges will be erected at an estimated cost of around Rs 21 crore to ensure pedestrian safety.

Key initiatives under the Irrigation and Flood Control Department include the reconstruction of 10 drains, enhancements to 3 drains, and the construction of 24 boundary walls, along with 18 roads and bridges. These projects will require an investment of nearly Rs 272 crore, and once completed, they will significantly enhance rainwater drainage, mitigate waterlogging, and provide lasting relief to affected communities.

Point of View

It is crucial to recognize the ongoing efforts by the Delhi government to address infrastructure deficits and improve citizens' lives in East Delhi. The commitment to equitable development is commendable, but the true test will be the timely completion and execution of these ambitious projects.
